Opinion on San Angel Inn -Mexico

I am sure this has been asked at some point but I am tired of looking so...I would like some opinions on San Angel Inn. My family and I are looking for somewhere different to try this trip. We have eaten at Marrakesh, Teppanyaki, and will be trying Le Cellier early this trip. We will have the dining plan so we won't be paying OOP per say. Thanks to all in advance.

We love The San Angel Inn! It is definitely AUTHENTIC mexican food...so don't think you'll find burritos, enchiladas and all that 'other' food that Americans consider Mexican (all that is considered Tex Mex). It's definitely yummy though!

I'm not a huge fan of Mexican food, but I like this restaurant a lot for its ambience. It's very fun and I definitely feel like I'm in WDW when we eat here!

Thank you for your response! Good to hear the food is good I have been in the pavillion and the atmosphere looks great! I will be going to my boyfriend and parents.

We have a lot of favorite restaurants, but San Angel is the only one we go to EVERY trip. It is so beautiful and the food is great. Request a waterside table and try the Sopa Azteca, you won't be disappointed!

San Angel in is excellent....like others have said the ambiance is fantastic...sitting there beside the river in the twilight is a great experience. Also as others have said it's authentic Mexican food which is a nice change from the same old Tex-Mex you normally find. This is a must on every trip for us and I would highly recommend it.

I disagree. I'm Mexican, and I can assure you that burritos, enchiladas, tacos, etc. are definitely authentic, and many authentic Mexicans do eat those foods. San Angel may not serve what you call "typical" Mexican restaurant food, but the food there is no more authentic than a taco is. Different does not mean authentic. I think it's pretty bad rendition of Mexican, and that has nothing to do with it's authenticity, or lack thereof. That said, it is an enjoyable restaurant, but go for the experience, not the food.

We LOVE the ambience...the lighting, the mood...it's awesome. We wanted to like the food so much, but didn't really. I got a chicken dish and another person in our party got steak and neither was very good in my opinion. We did have a yummy appetizer...queso fundido...I think we had a tasty dessert, too. The margaritas were good, however, we were disappointed by the quality of the meat in the entrees...especially for the price. I'll go back in a few years to give it another try...the atmosphere makes it worth a shot!

I agree(also being Mexican), I grew up on enciladas and tacos(sometimes fried). And guess what happened with most leftovers, wrapped up into burritos and dad took them to work for lunch. So burritos may not really be table food(depending on the family), they are very authentic in my book.

We ate at San Angel once, and food was decent. Only negative in my book was that sauces used in most of their dishes were tamed down abit , maybe to suit tastes not used to strong mexican flavors. All of it was entirely eddible just that not one of their dishes were what we would call above average.

I'm dying to try this restaurant on our trip coming, but a certain member of our party really doesn't like spicy food. Is this going to be a problem and would I better making my ADR elsewhere?

I know this place continually gets negative reviews but I love going here. Is it because of the food? No the food is average at best. It the ambience of this restaurant that brings me back. Plus awesome drinks.

I find that about most of Epcot's Restaurants. Average, expensive food, none of it very authentic even though they try. Most of the food in these restaurants have been americanized.

Also let me add most of these restaurants have great desserts. I usually order an appetizer, a dessert and a few signature drinks. I'm never disappointed.

I went there in September and it was really really good. I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the steak, and nothing was really spicy (my boyfriend can't handle spicy ). And it so different from all the other restaurants...I definately recommend it!!!

We ate at San Angel Inn once and we loved it . We were lucky and got a seat right next to the water and in front of the volcano. It was a great atmosphere and the food was very good. I would definately eat there again.

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The atmosphere is great. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had but certainly not the worst. DH and I both got the Plato Mexicano which had a steak, a chicken enchilada, and a ground beef burrito. And the margaritas are wonderful!

The only thing I really dislike about this restaurant is the fact that they have too many tables crowded into too small a space. When you push your chair back, you're practically sitting with the group behind you.

The atmosphere and the food we love. I know what they were trying to say. It is more than just tacos and enchiladas. It is more diverse. It is a fun place and the staff is very friendly.

San Angel Inn is always on our "must do" list each trip. We've been there for dinner for the last five years, and it's always excellent. To clear up some of the description of the food: it's not Tex-Mex, or American Southwestern, or California Mexican, it's Mexico City based. So, the fare might not be what you've come to expect in a typical Mexican restaurant. Anyway, my wife and I wouldn't consider missing it. The Margaritas Grandes are also excellent, and we love the atmosphere and service. The Mole Poblano has long been my favorite.
