Opening at AK

I read some where that they let you in early a few minutes early and there is a welcoming by Rafiki. Has anyone seen this? Is it worth making sure we are there early? Where does he do this?

Rafki was not there last week. Mickey ,Minne and the gang show up in a truck and walk you to the Safari ride. It is cute. The little ones love it.

There are usually a ton of characters in the front before the opening . Great time for photos and autographs.

What time did you get there?? I've read elsewhere that they don't even let you into the AK parking lot until 8 and that's when the park opens???

I'm really confused about what time you can actually get to the park to be there for the official openings. I've never seen them and would like to this trip with the kids.

I'd like to know approximately what time we should plan to get there, too.
ChrisAlli, the park typically opens at 9:00 (except for EMH).

I'm sorry it does open at 9, I just keep thinking 8 because we have an 8:05 AR for Donalds and not sure why they wouldn't open the parking before 8. We would like to take our rental instead of buses, same problem with CP at MK, we got a rental for a reason and would rather use it than buses. Posted questions over in Transportation board about openings and get conflicting answers, so I thought maybe someone would know that go to the openings, which we would also like to do for all parks if possible, just not sure how to get there early enough without taking buses

the buses run an hr before park opening.. the people who have posted about not getting in the lots are those driving themselves so if i't emh you can get on the first bus around 7 and be at the gate at 8
