Does anyone know what an open bed frame is and with the dvc studio units
. . . most bed frames are "picture frame" platforms upon which rests the springs/mattress
. . . the sides are bascially planks of wood and nothing accessible
. . . and "open frame" is like a Hollywood frame for springs/mattress
. . . things can fit underneath them
At least the rooms with roll in showers do have open frames in many cases. The amount of clearance underneath varies AND, depending on when they were updated can make a difference in the type/space of the frame.
The newest ADA guidelines require space underneath in wheelchair accessible rooms, but not all accessible rooms may be updated yet.
The Disney website actually has pictures of the different rooms.

Use the drop down menu on the bottom left of the pictures to choose accessible rooms.
The drop down menu on the bottom right will let you see pictures of individual room types.
Some of the pictures clearly show the bed frame and the amount of space underneath.
if you book a Florida accessible room do you get a tub and a shower over the tub?
. . . handicap rooms usually have roll-in showers
That is NOT correct. It depends on the
type of handicapped accessible room you book.
If it is a fully wheelchair accessible room THAT SPECIFICALLY says it is with a roll in shower, that is what it will have, along with features like raised seat toilet and roll under sink.
There is a formula in the ADA guidelines that specify how many rooms need to be accessible of what type. Depending on the number of rooms in the resort, it could be one room with roll in shower for every 4 handicapped accessible rooms with other features.
The majority of ADA (handicapped accessible) rooms do NOT have roll in showers. They may have other features, such as:
- an extra space on the end of the tub on the foot wall where someone could sit to transition into the tub
- a hand held shower head
- raised seat toilet
- some are accessible for someone who can walk, but needs extra supports like handrails/grab bars. Those bathrooms may not be large enough to get a wheelchair thru the door
- there are also wheelchair accessible rooms with tubs. Those would include grab bars and paths all over that are at least 3 feet wide (including the bathroom)
If you need a roll in shower, you need to make sure that you specifically request that.
I wonder also at The Villas at Grand Floridian if you get the shower unit on one side and the tub on the other?
. . . can't answer this one
you are not able able to tell from the pictures on the Disney website, but the pictures the other poster had a link to are good. It looks like Studios there have both - they don't at other DVC resorts.
If you are asking about a Studio at another resort, it will not have both - just either a tub or a roll in shower, depending on the type of room.
If you have a 1 or 2 bedroom, there will be a shower (either roll in or regular, depending on the type of room). That would be in one 'room' usually with a sink and the toilet. The toilet may be in a separate compartment in rooms that do not have a roll in shower.
All 1and 2 bedroom villas have a whirlpool spa tub. The ones in handicapped accessible rooms will have extra grab bars.
In our experience,my hose do not have a hand held shower head.
