Was it a really huge difference in price to add open bar to your reception? I heard there are different scales of choices when picking the types of alcohol. Thanks!

Actually it wasnt as bad as i thought...Now prices may have gone up but for us a guest would have to drink four/five drinks per person to justify the open bar (meaning they would have to drink less then four for consumptions to be cheaper)...but if someone just had soda or water it was then they would have to drink about seven/eight drinks.....Considering everyone was dancing i thought 2 drinks per hour was average and an ok expense....

I depends on if your guest are drinks....Considering a good deal of my guest where Navy men...and my family background is Russian...I could count on everyone including grandma to have a two drinks or more

we opted for the open bar b/c we knew our friends were drinkers (and BOY they drank!!) We found it was also good, because I must've gone through 10 drinks, but i never got to finish one of them, I kept getting pulled in different directions.

I think the difference for us was like $250...we had planned on doing beer/wine only and then per drink consumption on any other alcohol. You'll see in my trip log that the bartender started his own special drink and by the time we got to the reception it was highly recommended that we upgrade to the full open bar...we did.

Codie - I think that's awesome that they gave you the option at the last minute basically to upgrade!

We are going through the same thing now.

Since our reception starts at 1pm. Thinking of just the beer/wine open bar, then cash bar for the rest (or BOC depending on budget).

You know our bartender did that as well...Called it our specialty drink..."it was awful"....as i dont like fruity drinks...all night long everyone kept coming up to me asking why I picked that drink...????...I dont know if this is a standard thing but i was upset that no one told me it would be done

Yeah...I wouldn't have minded so much if I had picked the drink...or even if it had been Our specialty drink instead of his. I actually wanted a special drink...It's called Endless Summer at Wolfgang Puck's...but I was going to call it Endless Love or Passion...I never decided because I couldn't afford it:) I wonder if we had the same bartender and it is just something he does to try to make things more special?

We're just going for the beer and wine open bar - i looked at the BOC options but i know my family will drink enough to make the open bar the better option. Not to mention all the big drinkers in my family are beer and wine drinkers!
