Just happened to think about this. We were at OKW in late September. When we left home the restrictions regarding liquids in carry-ons was in place. While we were there the restrictions were changed to 3 oz. bottles in a baggie. I was very careful to pack within the restrictions and had my carry-on filled with Christmas ornaments rather than liquids. When going through airport security my oh so carefully packed bag was scrutinized at the machine and then searched. I was perplexed and said the items were Christmas ornaments. Each was heavily wrapped in paper and bubble wrap. One by one, each ornament was opened until the security person found the one she was looking for. It was Tinkerbell sitting on a glass bell. Somehow the machine knew it was glass. What they were looking for was the liquid as they thought it was a water globe. It if had been a water globe I would not have been allowed to carry it through that day. She said, "You would be surprised how many we find." So, if you buy a water globe ornament don't pack it in a carry-on. I was okay with my ornament and they let me through. :)

:rotfl2: So NOW I know how they find liquids, if it's in glass.

On my last two flights, by accident, I had nail polish and lip gloss (gel) in my purse. Two for two the TSA missed it. (I really had forgotten it was in there, I never carry nail polish but when I was leaving a hotel room a few days earlier I realized I had left it on the bedside table and tossed it in my purse where it stayed!)

If you do buy one of those snow globes I would recommend having Disney ship it. That way Disney will replace it if it's broken. Considering the way your checked baggage is processed I wouldn't put it in there!

Also, this is a good reminder. Do NOT wrap those Christmas gifts you are carrying on!

I forgot too. I'm just back from a quick trip to Albany, NY and had my shave cream and toothpaste confiscated at security. (They weren't actually confiscated, I read the signs and pitched them.)

The current rule (which they are broadcasting throughout the terminals in some airports) is 3-1-1.
  • 3 - any liquid, paste, gel, etc. must be in a container which holds less than 3 ounces
  • 1 - All such items must be presented in a One Quart clear plastic bag
  • 1- And you can bring only One of those plastic bags
This applies ONLY to carryon items. You can carry your entire facial reclaimation kit in checked luggage.
