Reading the Jungle Cruise thread, I was reminded of JC experience I had last February.

My mom and I were taking an evening cruise. After leaving the dock and rounding the first bend in the river, one of the passengers realized that her small child wasn't on board. She, of course, was rather frantic and alerted the CM who immediately stopped the boat and radio'ed the dock to look for a 3 year old girl dressed as Ariel. They responded back that she was there and would be looked after until we returned.

All was well, and the CM got the boat moving, but he wasn't really sure what to do then. Said this was the first time that had ever happened to him. He asked the eight of us on board if we wanted to hear The Speil but no one was really into it, so he just nixed it, made a bit of small talk, and then we had a quiet ride back. We all applauded when we rounded the final turn to see little Ariel standing on the dock with the castmember. :yay:

Anyone else have odd attraction or show experiences?

So the mom freaked out so much that nobody else on the boat wanted to hear the spiel? What the heck? There's nothing anybody can do so why sit and fret for the rest of the ride? Why not just enjoy it? Nixing the spiel isn't going to get you back any sooner. Very strange...

I didnt read that in the story at all! It sounded to me more like the others were concerned also. Now, maybe the OP meant it was more like your post, but I just didnt get that vibe..

If I was on a boat when someone had misplaced their child, I would be almost as nervous as the mom. I wouldn't want to hear the spiel; it would sound stupid in that situation.

But if they had already confirmed (per the OP) that the child was fine and with a CM...not as big a deal, right?
Prob threw the CM for a loop though, and maybe he couldn't get back on track.

The OP said there were only 8 people aboard the boat, so it's not like there were dozens of first time Jungle Cruisers. If you've ever been separated from your small child, you'd know it's really difficult to think about anything other than the child, even if you know she's with a cast member. Having to say "Watch out for Ginger. She snaps" and "butterflies that grow from 12 inches all the way up to one foot" while people are thinking about a small child being separated from her mother would be kind of difficult at best. I think the CM on the boat and the passengers did the right thing. They probably comforted the mom, which as a mom I know I would have appreciated. My kids are all grown now, but if I'd been on that boat, I also wouldn't have wanted to hear the spiel. I would have been reassuring the mom and trying to remain positive for her sake.

Yes, there were a few tense moments on the boat before we found out that the child was safe and accounted for. No one was into continuing the ride as usual and the mother kept apologizing to us for the situation. I think we all enjoyed a quiet ride back to the dock. No harm done.

Anyone else have some weird ride experiences?

Last May a friend and I were riding, for the first time, Snow White's Scary Adventures and we had just gotten to the part where Snow White is fleeing through the forest and the ride stopped. No big deal, we just watched the glowing alligator eyes with their mouths chomping for a little bit while we waited for the ride to continue. Then, we heard a CM over the loudspeaker tell us to stay seated and the lights turned on!!! We could now see everything, everywhere. The huge warehouse-like look, the torn black curtains separating each scene, the cardboard looking trees and the alligators, which were just alligator heads attached to long flat metal pieces that moved forward and back, making the mouth move. We were horrified. :scared1: The family in back of us leaned forward and said, "This is what's supposed to happen, right?" Even though it was our first time too, I knew that this could not be something that they would want you to see!

After awhile, the lights turned off and the cars started moving and we finished the ride. My friend and I were a bit traumatized. I thought it was like accidentally catching your neighbor naked through a window. You're uncomfortable and you don't want to look the neighbor in the eye later.

It may all sound a little dramatic but we were caught in the story on the ride and then all of a sudden yanked out. It was very startling. I guess I prefer to see the illusion. I don't think we'll ride it again.

Not a ride experience, but we had an odd one at Voyage of the Little Mermaid last May. It was at the end of the part with the "live" Ursula where they lower her down through the floor. Two of her tentacles must have bent funny because they got stuck sticking up out of the trapdoor. There was smoke or fog all around the stage, weird lights, and just these two tentacles sticking up out of the ground pinched between the trap doors. They quickly evacuated the whole theater due to "technical difficulties".

Yikes, that sounds just a little bit creepy! Once on Dinosaur, our car was in one of the many completely dark parts, and it just flat out stopped. There was no narrative or CM instructions over the loudspeaker or anything for about 30 seconds. If it wasn't so dark and noisy in there, it probably wouldn't have been as strange. The sound was a bit out of sync for most of that ride, too.

How could she not know that her child was not on a boat with only 7 other guests on it?

How do people forget their kid is in the car on a 100 degree day??

On Star Tours once, we were supposed to go to Endor but we ended up flying off and missing Endor and instead we were in a battle. It was pretty freaky! But we made it back OK. :goodvibes

Not at all the same thing.
That happens when a person is by themselves
and heading off to do something without looking
into a back seat.

Where was the child when the boat was loaded?

There had to have been a virtually empty queue
(only 8 people boarded the boat)
and the dock CM's would have noticed a lone child.

No need to hastily send out a virtually empty boat.

None of this makes sense.

I believe that the mom thought the dad had her and the dad thought the mom had her.

Thanks to the other posters for sharing your stories! :woohoo:

We were escorted out of Spaceship Earth once but they didn't turn on any extra lights. I'm curious enough to where I probably would have liked that though.

I will say that the middle stair we went down is pretty humdrum and then the door that goes out just dumps you in the middle of the sidewalk. That was kind of jarring for a second.

This really rubs you the wrong way doesn't it, Robo?
