If you're on a dining plan, do you ever pay out of pocket just to have additional table service restaurants?

If so, where? Any regrets?

With this free dining it seems I keep adding TS restaurants, and I keep saying to myself, "but the other ones are free. I'm saving money, right?" AHHHHHH!

We did the free dining last year and didn't pay out of pocket for a TS. This year though, we wanted to try Kona for breakfast and decided not to use a credit for it. We are still doing 1 TS a day, but are using 2 credits for CRT. It seems like a lot of people do pay OOP for a breakfast here and there, but I don't like to do it very often.:goodvibes

Paid OOP for Chef Mickey's breakfast, absolutely no regrets. We'd used 2TS at Narcoossee's oh my was that good!

when we did the basic DDP last year we paid OOP for a LOT of TS meals. Breakfast every day and a couple lunches too. Also we paid for one of our dinners so we would have the extra credits for a signature. No regrets though, that's how we would have eaten with out the DDP. This trip we are doing the Deluxe DDP and we are still paying OOP for our lunch at ESPN on arrival day! No, we will not have any regrets about it either! The Deluxe plan works way better for the way we normally eat at Disney. :goodvibes

we'll be paying OOP for appetizers this coming trip (on DDP) since they're no longer included....

(and for an extra dessert at narcoosees: almond crusted cheesecake!!!)

We paid OOP too, for several things...........first off, we wanted to eat at Rainforest Cafe.....not on the plan. We had to purchase several breakfasts too! - no regrets.

This year, well it is very sad to see the appetizers and tips taken away. I am contemplating the Deluxe plan instead of the regular.........not sure yet though.

We added in 2 extra meals that will be OOP due to wanting to do a goodbye breakfast on our last day and then CRT. So we'll probably do Sci-Fi and Raglan Road OOP and split entrees.

We have in the past and we will this year as we are eating at CRT (hopefully) for dinner.

I want to do what SmallWorld71 is doing, pay OOP for Kona's breakfast. We never pay to eat breakfast (we bring stuff to eat in the room) but I'm dying to try those pancakes and I think DH will like Tonga Toast. Ask me if it was worth it in September :goodvibes

We pay oop to go to Rainforest Cafe, the food isn't fabulous but the kids love the place, and by doing that we have at least one table service left and we use it to have a character breakfast on the day we depart, sort of as our farewell to disney. This year since we are eating CS during MNSSHP instead of LTT, we will have another extra TS credit so I used it to book Donald's Safari Breakfast one morning we are going to AK.

If you plan on doing that, your best bet it to figure out how much each meal would be likely to cost OOP, and of course pick the least expensive ones to pay OOP. Breakfasts and buffets are almost always the cheapest -- but really check your figures on any 2 TS restaurants, because per credit, they might be the smartest ones to pay OOP. When I did the math on all of our ADR's, our least expensive meals will be breakfasts at Boma and CP. I have 9 TS planned and 7 TS credits for each of us, so those are probably my OOP ones.

One word of caution -- actually a FEW words -- last year my DH got horribly sick about 2/3 of the way through our trip :sad2: and we missed our last two TS meals because of it. We had paid OOP for the plan, and fortunately had gotten such a great value up to that point that we really didn't lose money, in fact we still came out somewhat ahead -- but that was back when appetizers and tips were included  Even if no one in your party gets sick, (and I wouldn't wish that on anyone on vacation!) there may be a time when you don't make it to an ADR, or aren't hungry, or are in the mood for CS instead. So just be mindful of banking your TS credits too early in your trip so you don't end up wasting them. ::yes::

We are going to pay OOP for the Hoop DE Doo this year, We figuure for $59 ea. we would get the catagory 1, plus you get the app. and tips paid , plus all the beer and wine you want plus you get to see the show.
With the 2 TS ea we have left we added Coral Reef and breakfast at Crystal Palace on get away day.
I think thats a good deal.:confused3
