Ooops, left on CC???

Somehow I figure they'd charge you up the wazoo if that happened .. they'd either charge you for airlifting you back to Florida, or they'd charge you some hysterical amount to stay on the island until the Wonder or Magic came back (and then you'd have to pay for passage on that ship as well).

Not sure a few extra days on CCay would be worthe the price ;) :earseek:

Our 11/20/04 sailing has two stops Sunday and Friday. So if I miss the ship they could came and get me Saturday. But.....I'd miss all that great food and....yes, my verandah. Plus I heard the bugs are pretty bad.

Just curious -- why is the 11/20 cruise stopping at CC twice? What port are they giving up to do that?

That cruise is not going to Key West. There's a regatta scheduled.

Lucky you!! Can't they make that itinerary permanent?? CC was our FAVORITE!!

You do realize how theoretical that is, they do not have a specific time they have to leave like at other ports. They won't sail till everyone has checked back in onboard.

anyone else ever wonder if the "bug" problem is a "problem" that would discourage people from wanting to stay?

Now that you mention it, that is true.... One of our group was THE last guest back onboard last November (captain even blasted the horn to deter her from going into the post office on the way back to the ship; didn't work, she still went to the PO). Captain was anxious to leave, in order to out run an incoming storm ... the second they scanned my friend's KTTW card upon reboarding they slammed shut the door & Captain put the pedal to the metal. :)

They don't always scan your card back in. In January, everyone had to return to the ship early due to an approaching storm. My DS, 9 got separated from the rest of us. There was no way to check if he had gotten on board b/c they were not scanning in the KTTW cards in an effort to speed up the boarding process. The island manager was radioing others on the island looking for him. A CM found DS (or DS found the CM) & I met them in the kid's club after we departed CC. I was one of the last people standing there on the dock.

I've often wondered if the tides had anything to do with when the ships arrive and depart CC. I imagine that the port/dock they built is fairly shallow so they would have to leave before a low tide.

On the other hand...
Since the the ships are usually there at about the same times that the tides really don't play much of a factor in when they ship has to leave.

OK, now my brain hurts!:D

On our last cruise (November 2002), one of the films they showed in the room was the making of Castaway Cay. It was amazing. They dredged tons of ocean sand so that the ship could berth directly on the island -- and the used all that sand to build up other parts of the island. Next time you cruise, see if they are still showing that. It gives you a greater appreciation of what Disney really did with this island.

Also, next time you go, rent bikes and bike around the island. You will see the message cabanas, adult beach, areas where the staff lives, and lots of nature. We went all the way to the end to a jetty that went out and you could see the other islands behind this one. Very beautiful.

In July of 2002, the ship left someone on the island-it had to turn around and go back to pick up the people-2 adults and an infant. They also had a child in the Oceaneers Club-thats why the captain said they turned around to get the parents.

That must've been one peeved captain!! :earseek:

In those cases I don't think they re-dock, they just stop nearby and a boat comes out from the island to return whoever to the ship. On our first cruise it was right after a hurricane had destroyed the island. We didn't dock, just stopped to drop a lot of supplies to the islanders who were cleaning up the mess. The boats made multiple trips to being everything ashore.

Well, since we're talking about people left behind (or almost)....

On our November 2002 cruise, when we were docked in St. Thomas, we had to wait for two women to return. It's funny how it all played out though.

Starting at around 4:00 p.m., we kept hearing announcements over the PA stating their name and stateroom numbers and asking that if they were onboard, to please report to Guest Services immediately. This went on for one hour. Keep in mind, we were supposed to depart at 4:45 p.m.

Well, at 5 p.m., a very curt message was sent over the PA about these women reporting whether or not they were on the ship. Well, our curiousity got the best of us and we went up on Deck 10 to watch the dock. Sure enough, here comes these two very tipsy women walking arm in arm and laughing.

Well, the next day, while in line at the omelet station, I got talking to two CM's who were actually at the doorway when they came aboard. It turns out that one of them had an infant in the nursery, which is why they couldn't leave. The other one's husband, whom I heard was mortified because they kept announcing their stateroom number and everybody knew it was that was holding us up, had actually packed all their bags and taken them off the ship and was waiting on the dock because he was told they would have to leave without his wife. They said he was furious when she returned and not very nice words were exchanged.

We didn't leave port until almost 5:30. The Captain came over the PA system that night to regretably announce that because of the delay, we would not be docking at Castaway Cay until 9:00 a.m. It was the latest I've ever gotten off at Castaway Cay.

The sad thing is -- because their stateroom numbers were announced repeatedly -- I heard that they got numerous nasty messages left under their doors asking them how it felt to mess up everyone else's cruise, etc.

Some people just need to wear a watch!

Back in July of '01 we did not depart from CC until 10:00 pm due to a Medical Emergency. Hence we did not get into Port Canaveral until about 9:00 am or so and were no able to leave the ship until after 10:30 am.

We still needed to stay on the ship at CC as we were told the bugs are very nasty at night. We had a wonderful meal at Palo overlooking CC!!!

Many people missed their early flights that day!!!

We must have been on the same cruise! I remember that day. The emergency kept us there late and since we were getting off so late the net morning , they did a good job of planning some last minute events to keep passengers occupied. I remember participating in a trivia contest in the WD Theater. Luckily, we had a later flight and had no problems.
