So...got any tips or pointers for those of us who can't seem to get past 260K?

Well, there seems to be these plateaus of scoring that you have to keep working through to break through.

Once you've managed 240,000, each 10,000 mark after that seems like it's nearly impossible. I must admit, last night it occurred to me my next goal would be working toward the 290,000 mark and I'm trying to imagine how on earth I can eek out another 10,000 points.

But there are a couple of things I keep in mind:

1. The more you play, the more your brain maps out the fireworks. I find myself settling into this gaze in the game and realizing I'm hitting almost all flawless without "working" at it. Like my childhood piano lessons, the practice seems like it doesn't really get me anywhere, until I suddenly realize I'm not having to think as hard about the notes.

2. I've found I play better without the sound on. At first, I didn't think it made much of a difference, but from the 270,000 plateau on, I changed my mind.

3. SLOW DOWN at the end of the third stages. That's when the make or break points come. There are so many and the temptation is to try to hit them all as soon as you can to get to the next ones. You need to work out the timing to hit them as they are cresting, even though it feels like you'll miss more that way. That's where all the practice comes in.

4. The last stage of Level 5 is the worst, and that's where I think I will find a majority of my next 10,000 extra points to get to 290,000, especially when they fire the mass of yellow before the mass of quickest burning baby blues. I managed my 280,000 scores when I didn't get that ending, but hit 279,000 with the dreaded yellow/baby blue and know I can make that mark now regardless.

5. Change the setting on your monitor so that the white star contrasts more with the darker background. Work toward timing the very latest flawless you can hit. The better the mouse (optical, gaming, wired is the best and I don't have one), the more those last nanosecond flawlesses will count.

6. Find the angle you like to wait on the fireworks for. I watched WDWTigger's film ad nauseum and discovered the way he moves his mouse in between hitting the fireworks is different from what's comfortable for me. I tend to do better waiting just above the firework for the star, rather than up and to the left. Again, practice will help you figure out what works best for you.

7. Begin to note a pattern of scoring at each level to assure yourself you're getting where you need to be. Sometimes I psyche myself out when I miss an easy one by clicking that nanosecond too late, but at the end of the level, I realize I'm ok and can settle back into the fireworks hypnosis feeling relaxed.

My general marks and personal bests are around:
Level 1: 44,500 (best: 46,500)
Level 2: 94,500 (best: 97,500)
Level 3: 144,500 (best: 150,500)
Level 4: 212,000 (best: 215,000)
Level 5: 280,000 (best: 281,600)

In Level five, at the end of stage one I want to be past 231,000, end of stage two 252,000. Those number will have to creep up, especially in the last two levels, to work towards 290,000.

More than anyone wanted to know, I'm sure, but those are my tips. :teeth:

First off - CONGRADULATIONS! :cool1: :cheer2:

Way to go Llama! I've seen you play many times... in fact in your first pic, there's me making a decent stop at 240,115 for credits (I played 15 games in a row for 1300 credits each last night - woot for me!).

So true here people! I never realized how easy it is for me to make 240k now... I hardly think about it anymore... I can talk on the phone, think about other things, etc... my eyes nearly seem directly wired to my hands now-a-days... I especially noticed it when I've started playing marathon games for Halloween credits (10-20 games per sitting). I'm now having to stop right at the end of Level 5 Stage 2 or else I'll go over 240k! In fact several times I'm clicking along and Stage 3 comes up and I'm already at 243k or so... drat!

I'm not too far off those marks... Hmm... Mostly at the end of L4 I'm closer to 200k though, I think my best was 206k. But if I worked at it I could get up there, I tend to miss a lot because I'm not concentrating...

I've tried for the Green Car and want it badly. I've managed to get the 85 Ghosts twice now (the first time I actually got 100!), but I always miss the first Tomorrowland Monorail atom. I can't find it! Do you remember where it's at? I'm sure I can beat Ghosts again if I gave it another go...

Again, way to go Llama! :woohoo:

Goofy_Bob, I did a search for "Green car quest" here to find dedicated threads, one of which included (several times) where the atoms were located. It's frustrating to get 85 ghosts and then not find the first atom. I made sure that only happened to me once. :rotfl:

The first atom is behind the desk. Wait until after the monorail leaves the station (or you'll get on it), and then click on the desk and everywhere behind it. It's there -- just make sure your little person walks all over there. :)

I am not nearly as good as some of the people on this thread and I can say that the tips they have are fantastic to follow. I would like to add one more of my own:

Take baby steps. Choose a particular firework and concetrate on it until you can consistently hit flawless on it. Your scores may go down temporarily while you are concentrating but when they rebound and move up a little, it is time to move on to the next firework to concentrate on.

I did this when trying to crack that 240,000 barrier. It took about a month but now I feel like I personally know each type of firework and it's personality. Now, just a couple months later, I can hit the 260,000 most of time if I don't stop. Next goal for me: 270,000!

CONGRATULATIONS LLAMA!! Anyone who can reach that high of a score in fireworks has respect from me!

I'm trying for the green car too, but I'm only on task five or something (rofl); I can not find that darn horseshoe in the tomorrowland hub! Any idea where it is?

I didn't say it before, and it's rude to not say it..so: CONGRATULATIONS LLAMA!! :goodvibes

I got above 270K tonight.

My weakness is definatly level #4. I can't quite get to 212K at the end of this level. I seem to be around 207K, so I obviously have to work some more there.

quick question: how do you handle two of the same firework being up in the air at the same time? Do you get a "good" on one and a "flawless" on another? do you try for "awesome" on both. sometimes in trying to get the best score for both, I end up missing them. :guilty:

I wonder if this game is a lot easier with a touch-screen monitor.....

but, tonight my best scores were 271K and 272K.
I'm getting there....

Here are a few of my tips:

If there are two fireworks and I they are close enough that I know I can hit both flawless, I'll do both flawless. If they both come up at exactly the same time and I know I can't get flawless on both, I will get a good or awesome on one and flawless on another. If there are 2 different fireworks that appear to be crossing over each other at the same time, I will almost always hit one before to get a good or awesome, so I know I will not get an oops and I will have a flawless on the other. If 2 fireworks are so close together, I can sometimes first click one off to the side a little (so I don't hit the second one), then click the second one. If there are 2 of the same fireworks heading toward each other and I see that they are close enough to each other to get flawless on both at the same time, I will wait until they turn to stars and click between them for a flawless on both. :)

Woot! Congrats Dis, great job :) (sorry for the delay, some bad trading etiquette put me off coming for a short while!!)

Now i can pass 280 fairly regularly (on good days lol) , I might restart too, and get past the even worse hurdles of the ghosts and atoms. then I shall give you a green car race down main street!!

Congrats again!

show off. lol!

best I did for the end of round 4 was 207K.

I did find that if you click on the edge of the firework you don't score as high compared to when you click directly ON the firework.

I also found that if I'm down 2-4K going in to round 3, I seem to make that up and sometimes pass it by the end of round 3.

..and I also found that round 4 is where my main weakness is.
Rounds 1, 2 and 3 are becoming easier, but 4 is where I seem to have the most trouble. I seem to always end round 4 in the 204K range and mumbling under my breath on how it seems I'll never squeeze out that extra 8K to get in to prime position to get 280K in round 5. :sad2:

I've never experienced this. If I click on or near the firework when it last turns to a star, it usually always comes up flawless. :)

She's right Days, lately Ive been testing things in FW, and found that there are small points differences in flawless. I have got flawless when not hitting spot on and got maybe 950 points, if I hit right smack in the middle I can get 980/990.

So whether the difference is due to hitting it spot on, or is a timing based scoring difference, I don't know, with maybe higher points being the later you hit it.

One thing I always have hated are the two pairs of fw that come up in stage 2 of level one...always corrupt my flawless lol. I've gotten lucky a few times with one pair reaching star at the same point but never both. Drives me mad every time!

It's got to be a timing issue... I nearly always click on the side/corner edge of the FW. And there are many times I've scored an even 990-1000 points for my Flawless when doing so. Of course I don't normally wait that long as more often than not the FW fizzles away if I do so. Normally my Flawless are 960-980, but that's because I don't give them time to age to that perfect 1000 flawless.

The location of my cursor has had no bearing on the score... just the timing.
