Southwest is having a special from Nashville to Ontario this week - $95 each way. I can get a direct flight to ONT, but I have not heard much about it or how bad a drive it is to DL.

would you......

I would definitely wait, Robin -- Ontario is FAR, probably 60 miles away. If you arrive or leave during rush hour the traffic would be nasty too.

I have to believe there will be some decent specials for SNA or LAX coming up too. :)

Here is my advice:
Do a mapblast for ONT to DL and really see how far it is. Yes traffic can be bad but you can use the carpool lane which helps in spots
To me a direct flight (esp if you have kids) is worth its weight in gold.
That is a good price - I would book it but then you probably know better what sort of deals come and go and I dont since I never fly to DL

No doubt J Wayne Airport is very close and convenient to DL but I could be swayed to do ONT for a good price and a direct flight - hmmm tough one!

Wait to see if there is anything to Orange County but if not don't worry, especially if you rent a car. Flying direct sounds better to me than changing planes.

I would do John Wayne. If you get round trip transfers like Super Shuttle it can cost you $60.00 pp out of ONT where it is around $21.00 out of SNA. I would hold out for "The Duke" airport.

Rush Hour in LA is like nothing you've ever seen Robin, makes Chicago rush hour look like playtime! Imagine Nashville rush hour lasting all day and you'll get LA traffic about right. I also voted to try for a better shot at SNA, it's almost as close as MCO is to WDW, if not physically, at least in driving, you will not regret the choice, believe me.

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to let the ONT go on by. Not necessary for rush hour - we have all intents of avoiding rush hour like the plague no matter where we land.

If I can't find a good rate to SNA we will do LAX again. It wasn't too bad last time. (Worst part was flaggind down the buses to the rental car agencies - they drive like NY taxi cab drivers) I am just concerned about the post-9/11 security taking 3 hours when we leave for home. But Hakuna-Matata - we will be on vacation.

PS - I did get to enjoy rush hour one day on our last trip. Not quite bad as I expected - but bad to say the least. Kinda Like Nashville's I-24, but instead of 4 lanes backed up 20 miles it was 6 or 7 lanes backed up for 20 miles.
