We are in the "car is more hassle" camp. jkovick summed up the reasons nicely. I suspect another reason is that I've done a lot of international travel - and I almost never rent a car overseas - so I'm used to taking cabs, buses, trains....its part of a vacation to me. Also, we are DVC members with BWV as a home, which means we can walk to Epcot and MGM and have a lot of dining options close to the hotel. (We don't cook much more than breakfast in our room - so we aren't going shopping for groceries).

One thing we do is take cabs when buses aren't convienent. There is an additional unnecessary expense there, but we don't take a lot of them (resort to resort travel, leaving the MK at closing time, getting to MK or AK for opening). And, I'm not a shopper...my cab budget may be more than most people, but my pin budget is nothing.

There are trips in our future where we will go back to renting a car because we will head to Universal or SeaWorld - but for right now we leave the airport, head to Disney property in a towncar and don't leave it.

If you are waivering - get a car. By the time you pay for a towncar or transfers, a car isn't that much more expensive. You will then discover how you travel and if you'll always need a car, or if you end up leaving it parked. This is not a "one sized fits all" question.

A lot depends on what you are doing. If you're planning on not leaving property for the entire trip, you can probably get away with not having a car. We have other things in the area that we like to do aside from Disney, so even though we're only going for a short trip (Thursday - Monday) next month, we'll have a car.

We live close enough to drive to Florida, so we have our own car. But we don't drive it on the Disney property --- it's sooo much easier (and quicker if you include the time spent walking to and from the parking lots) to use Disney transportation!
