In reference to the impact that the Olympics will have on American Idol.
However, the show is facing off against the Olympics in February. But because only old people watch the games, “Media researchers such as [MediaVest’s John] Spiropoulos are predicting ‘Idol’s’ ratings these weeks will dip less than 10 percent, primarily because the Olympics attract an older audience,” Media Life reports.

Where's my cane?? Honestly, I like Fox and my 3 favorite shows are all on that network but PALEEESE, who the heck added that line to their website? I see the original quote was from a site called Media Life. Well Media Life ought to get a life. I guess us seniors can maybe do some things they can't like walk and chew gum and like the Olympics and AI.

The whole article is here:
Olympics vs AI

Well, I'm 16. And I hate both the Olympics and AI. Well, I don't hate the Olympics, I just think they're boring. As long as Fox keeps making 24 and House, they can do no wrong in my book :teeth:

ETA: One good thing the Olympics does have, Michael Phelps

I'm 31 and watch the Olympics. Not all of it, but there are events I'm definitely looking forward to seeing.
I also watch AI

I am 59 and an "old person" and I love watching the Olympics. I watch all sports and follow online.

I am 25 and love the Olympics ... please pass me a cane, so I can rest my weary bones, and some prunes so I can get the extra vitamins and help my digestion.

I'm old and I WOULD watch the Olympics more if they actually SHOWED the Olympics. There is too many stories and human interest stuff about the athletes and not enough of the events that I get so bored it's not even funny. PLUS by the time they are shown on prime time here I already know results of some of the competitions, kinda takes away from the moment.

That said, I am hooked on AI, so I will be watching that and then switching back and forth after depending on what is being shown on the Olympics that night.

My elderly 26 year old self will be watching the Olympics, not AI. :teeth:

You're so right! I watch most of the coverage on the canadian broadcaster CBC (and they do a great job of covering most of the events live) but sometimes I'll watch it on NBC and it's bad...rarely live and too many stories instead of actual coverage.

Oh and I've watched the Olympics ever since I was a teen (in my early 30's now)

Im 31 and I love watching the Olympics. My kids are I are very excited for the games to begin. We watch them as a family and I will TIVO anything that I would normally watch during the Olympics and catch up when the games are over.

Hmm... well I am old and I will most definitely be watching the Olympics, BUT I will also be watching AI. My hope is that even with my poor old feeble mind, I can figure out how to watch one and record the other.

Olympics!! WOOOOO!!! :cool1: I've waited four years for this day... er, month... I mean... next month. Perhaps I should rotate the wheels on my walker, buy some new support hose... gotta look sexy for those Olympic hotties. How are my grey hairs? Good?

See, now I like these stories. I think it makes the events themselves so much more interesing if I know something about the athletes. There are quite a few times I will watch events I otherwise would not just because learning about the background of the athlete has piqued my interest.

I don't think "attracts an older audience" means old people watch it. AI's target audience is younger than the Olympic's target audience. My children definately enjoy AI more than they do the Olympics.

Been watching the Olympics since I saw them in 1984 as a kid. Kind of a condescending way to write the article--there is a *better* way to say it. When you say "old people" you mean "OLD" people.

"older audiences" would have been more appropriate.

I will say my tastes in what I will watch have grown--used to be limited to gymnastics and ice skating....I have since added many different sports I do like to watch.

I will be watching more now that we have DirectTV and TIVO. I'm hoping to watch curling. Wanted to see it last time but had no cable. And the curling challenge on AR has me curious of how it goes down in real life for competition.

For someone who wanted to see more--they show it on CNBC and MSNBC at times I believe---and the last few Olympics--was it Nagano last time?? and the other locales for summer (Australia and Athens) do not lend to live coverage very well do to the time change. Hopefully it will be a bit better in Torino.

I just don't understand why they pre-empt for Wimbledon and Golf--but NBC very rarely pre-empted the last several times for the Olympics. You figure with their big $$$$ contract at stake--they'd be making good on their money.

I would love to see the paralympic games that take place 2 weeks after the olympics but the United States won't show them. There are shown in every other country even China but not here. :headache:

I will be watching.... wait for it.... HOCKEY! like I have a choice anyway. LOL

But also love the figure skating and the Luge. And will watch Speed skating in honour of my dear friend Kami

I'm 32 and I love the Olympics! Winter or Summer - we're watching!

Can't say I'm a fan of AI, though.

Well, I must be old. I had to click on the story link to find out what AI stood for. :rotfl:

Wow- I can still remember watching Olga Korbut in 1972- I was 6 at the time. I LOVED the 1976 Olympics- both Winter and Summer. I had the Dorothy Hamill "wedge" haircut and everything!

If watching the Olympics makes me an old lady at 40, then call me Granny- just don't call me during the figure skating competition!! :teeth:
