Only Child at WDW

I have loved reading all of your stories and suggestions. I knew the board would come through. Since my last post, I have had an offer for another family to come, but I think that our little family can have a GREAT BIG vacation all by ourselves.

My daughter is counting down the days to the magic.

If you were just going for a day or two, taking a 6yo friend would probably be fine. But a 7 day family vacation might be a bit much. It's surprising how much the family dynamic changes when you add in another person. I'd just go with your family and enjoy each other.

Go with your own little family of three and have a blast! Your DD will love the attention of both parents in such a magical place!!!

JMHO, but I wouldn't even consider taking a friend unless I knew the child and family extremely well and had already taken her many other places. We once took one of our DD's friends to a ballgame. As soon as we got to our seats, she looked at me and said "I'm ready to go home, now" and she meant it.

I am taking my only child to Disney in August. This is our first visit, but I think it will be ok.

Only children are great at being their own playmates.

My only DD is 12 and we've been going to WDW regularly since she was 6. This past January we finally brought a friend along, and I can honestly say it was our worst trip yet. Somehow that new party just didn't help, but made matters worse. Our next trips will be family only.

I am an only child. My parents have been taking me to Disney since I was two. I am now 16 and have never took a friend. I have always been really happy to. It's the one time we spend together as a family.

All our trips have been Mom & DS now 11.
A few times my grown DD now 33 has joined us.
We always have the best of fun.
My youngest & I have alway been best friends.
Don't get me wrong we do have are ins & outs.
Just go & have fun.

Our dd is 6 and this June will be our 3rd trip to Disney. It has always been just the three of us. Disney is a magical place for families and especially at such a young age I don't think a friend is needed. If another family was going that would be one thing but I personally would not want the responsbility of keeping up with someone elses child at Disney World.

I am the mom of an almost 17 year old only DD. Last year we went down with my brother and his son. This time my DD and I were supposed to go alone. She wanted someone else there to talk to besides me. She wanted to bring a friend I told her I would pay for a close relative but not a friend. Disney is EXPENSIVE!!!! She asked her Godsister (15). Her mom is paying the airfare and her spending money. I'll pay for everything else (park tix, meals, other admissions 1 or 2 souveniors.) Traveling to places like Disney and cruises are the ONLY time I wish I had more kids. There is something about being around larger families, the kids are usually traveling with family and aren't always interested in any outsiders. It sometimes gets harder when they are teenagers. Six is a good time to travel with an only child. They are still into "you". Hope you have a blast

I am an only child. The only time I ever took a friend with me was when I graduated high school. I'm sorry, but your kid doesn't need to have a friend to have a good time in WDW.

We just got back from a trip to WDW with our only child who is 7 and we had the best time. It was our first trip and we are ready to go back next year, we only wish we could book it right now. I don't think bringing a friend is necessary, my DD is not that outgoing, but she did make friends at the pool and on the bus ride from AK. I'm sure your child will definately enjoy spending quality time alone with Mom and Dad.
