We are staying in the Orlando area for 3 nights after a 7-day Disney cruise. We want to stay somewhere relaxing but don’t want the expense of a deluxe hotel. (We stayed at GF last year for two weeks). We will not be going to the parks just staying at the resort and enjoying pools and actitivies at hotel. Which mod hotel should we do? DS is 7 years old and we are traveling in August.

I would look at POR or POFQ. They are both gorgeous resorts and share amenities (pools, etc.). You will also have a boat from the resorts to DS so you can explore that area as well.

I will look at both of those - thanks! I was also looking at CSR because they have a water slide!

That is good to know!! I have read that CSR is quite spread out as well.

Do you recommend one of two more than the other?

I recommend por or POFQ but we like POFQ better. POFQ is much smaller and we liked that about it. We also liked the theming better at POFQ. The cool thing about these two resorts is you can easily walk back and forth between them to restaurants and you can even use the other one’s pool(s).

We love POR! Both the Magnolia Bend and the Alligator Bayou areas are beautiful. We find that the Alligator Bayou rooms can be a little bit away for the main pool and lobby area, but it is so quiet and peaceful among the trees. The pathways offer a beautiful stroll. When my oldest daughter was three, she said the Magnolia Bend area was "super fancy" and she was right. They are very grand. The royal rooms are a delight. One of the best things about the POR is that you can take a boat to Disney Springs. It is a relaxing ride. Since POR and PORFQ are sister resorts, you are free to use the pool at either resort. We have never stayed at PORFQ, but it does have a smaller footprint so everything is much closer together. We also think that the quick service dining area at POR is pretty good. They have a lot of variety and is a good choice if you just want to stay around the resort. This year we are going to be at CBR since the price was too good to pass up, but I know we will be back to POR.

We have stayed at both Riverside and French Quarter but our vote is always for FQ. Smaller a lot more compact everything is just minutes away and you can take the boat to Disney Springs. As I have mentioned before one of the boat drivers told me they get people taking the boat just for the ride. And even thou we are staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge this time I am planning on a short trip to both resorts just to check them out again.

We've stayed at POR after a cruise before, no parks. We chose POR because of the boat to Disney Springs and we also enjoy the food court at POR the most. IMO, CSR has the best pool but with 3 nights, I would want to visit Disney Springs more than once so POR makes more sense for that.

Between POR and POFQ, we prefer POR because even though its larger, it makes it feel less crowded. We've only visited POFQ but found the food court and bus stop to feel busier. We also thought POR had better food court options.

Since you have stayed at both of these, can you tell me if you can see fireworks from either POR or POFQ?

I never saw them but me and my daughter tend to be rope drop commandoes who also close parks. On our 1st trip in 2005 I do remember seeing fireworks from the bus going back to POR but I cannot remember how close we were.

If you stay at either POR or POFQ you will be able to use the water slide at both resorts. There are no quiet pools at POFQ however.
