DS has no idea that we're leaving for WDW Friday for his 11th B-Day. We have kept this secret for 3 months and I'm just about to bust!

So here's the plan...

I have a Disney pin on my lanyard that I got several years ago. DS has been begging me to trade him for it but I keep telling him that I like it too much to trade. What he doesn't know is that we found the same pin on ebay and got it for him. I gotta tell you, when he offered to buy mine for $50 I really had to restrain myself! ;)

Anyway, while he is at school Friday we are going to put the new pin on his lanyard and then wrap the lanyard in a box with B-Day wrapping paper. We are going to pack and put our suitcases in the back of the car (out of sight) and then pick him up from school. We will give him the box and tell him it's an early gift. We are just going to start driving and see how long it takes him to realize we aren't driving home. We figure when we hit the highway it won't take him long to put 2+2 together.

Sneaky, eh? :tiptoe:

That sounds like a fantastic surprise. If you need to adopt any adult children, I may be available for a family vacation next week.

What a wonderful surprise. That's going to be a joyful car heading towards WDW!! We're going to be there the same weekend- we'll look for the family with huge smiles and matching pins! We know what you're going to celebrate!

how fun that sounds! and what great restraint for keeping it a secret all this time.

Sounds like so much fun! :thumbsup2 Good luck keeping the secret..... but i have faith in you

Make sure to take pictures! The pictures of when we surprised my 2 DDs with our last trip are by far my favorites of the whole trip.

Sounds like a good plan! Let us know how it turns out.

Can't think of a better gift! Enjoy your trip and Happy Birthday to your DS! :thumbsup2

Hi 3floridarays,
That is a fantastic plan. I am not sure I could have kept something like that a secret, so you are great for keeping it quiet. :goodvibes It will be completely worth it when he realizes what is going on. Have a wonderful trip and be sure to post when you get back about how it went. :thumbsup2

How fun!!!

We are also surprising our kids with trip, but they have never been and think Disney World is a "someday" thing. It is so hard keeping the secret!!

Oh wow thats such a lovely thing to do for your DS and he is going to be so shocked and excited when he finds out he is going to see Mickey for his birthday.

Hope you have the camera at the ready for his reactions :)

My DB and DSIL did this a few years ago for their two children. They live in Wilmington, NC and just told them that they were going south for a few days to catch up with family over the Thanksgiving holiday.

When they got to the Florida state line, the two kids screamed out in unison - Are we going to Disney World?

They said it was worth every penny of that trip to see their faces when they finally got to the etnrance sign and knew they were going.

Enjoy!

I'm going to move this to our happy dance board. Have a great trip!

My mom did a surprise trip for my sister and I at spring break back when I was in high school. She told us we were going to Branson, MO for spring break and that we were going to drive through the night to get there so we could sleep in the car. I woke up somewhere in Georgia and realized what was going on.

i dont know how you did it.......im trying to keep it a secret from my ds6 for when we go at the end of april it is so hard when he keeps asking when are we going back to mickeys house.....thank goodness he doesnt know the code letters wdw yet when we talk about it

Very cool!!

We are doing something similar with our kids (DD 17, DD 13 & DS 11). We booked our trip back in October and leave next Friday. The kids still don't know. We plan on telling them Thursday night by handing them each a Disney gift card. It will be my son's first trip to Disney - can't wait to see his face.

Have a wonderful trip!!
