Only 1 refill of bread allowed at Sebastain's now

I have been addicted to this thread since it started. My DH works weekends and too hot to go out, so this has been my entertainment. I am glad you posted!
I thought of you at the grocery store this afternoon! Honey butter, Cinnamon sugar butter, garlic butter, and butter for local chagrilled oysters!
*Also thinking about other topics that might keep you busy this weekend while your hubby is at work. 😉

Ok, that is hilarious!

And while I am here and yes, I already posted on the meme thread, but this is for @lowlight who prob feels the same :P

I'm just going to toss in a plug not just for making honey butter (which I've never done but love so much - nor had I ever looked for it in the store) but as someone who used to be able to eat nuts and loved honey nut cream cheese but couldn't find a good nut-free replacement (wanting sweet but not fruity) - making honey cream cheese is so easy and makes me so happy. A++ - would try again. As a Southerner, I already knew how valuable honey was to a good biscuit or cornbread - but let's keep it going with butter and cream cheese!

When I saw a thread about bread roll refills had 12 pages I was pretty excited and it did not disappoint. Some Disboards shenanigans of yesteryear right here - just needs a reference to the tag fairy and someone asking where the rum is...
I’m ranking it up with the “glass on the floor at the “Poly” thread. How I missed these during the pandemic.

I honestly expected this thread to be some 1-off strange thing. I can't believe how many people have been given a hard time! Especially when it's for a kid or a roll fell on the floor. That's a bit nuts.

I can see them not wanting people to order just an appetizer or something and the rolls, but when you have dinner and multiple people ordering, it's unimaginable

.
It's Prix Fixe or however you spell it so it's one cost no matter how much you eat.

Not gonna lie, I've always wanted a tag from the elusive and majestic Tag Fairy, but I was a little nervous about what it might be if it came from this thread! :duck:

HILARIOUS!!! Over-sharing disclaimer because my brain is mush right now: I feel your cabin fever pain over here. I'm super anxious and can't sit still this weekend. Waiting to hear back this week if my son qualifies for a Wish from a Wish-granting organization and it has me so nervous. (You know you're feeling overly emotional when you hear your kids playing sweetly in the next room over and it makes you weep because their kind voices are so precious. Seriously, who am I today?!?) Not sure when we'll be able to visit WDW for the next few years because he has a really big surgery planned for later this year and it's commandeered our schedules and finances. Super grateful that we have an amazing healthcare facility and phenomenal providers near us, but I'm also going to have to do a Disney detox program soon. (It's usually our light at the end of his medical tunnels.) In the meantime, I've started making our version of Food & Wine treats at home to keep my brain busy. This is supposed to be the Alps' broiled cheese, but I couldn't find raclette at our little grocery store. (Might also clean some closets in a little bit, but I'll spare everyone from those pictures and details...unless there's a DIS forum for that!)

That sounds dreamy!!! I haven't had honey nut cream cheese in a while, but I remember it being amazing.
Side note, the butter at Sebastian's is actually a guava butter, which no one seems to crave; but, someone mentioned honey butter a few pages back and we've been salivating for it ever since.

Prixe fixed doesn't necessarily mean AYCTE. Family style doesn't have to mean AYCTE. This thread informed some of us that restaurants I thougt were AYCTE aren't.

oooh, good to know. I didn't know what Sebastian's was before this thread (sadly) and I'm curious now but not sure I'll go (who knows when I'll even go back to WDW). But I love some guava. I HAVE considered flying down for my birthday to have a breakfast at Boma and I LOVE their guava pastry. mmmmm

My apologies to certain posters who will remain nameless who had hoped a quick death to this thread....but look what I came across online!!

Maple Brown Sugar Butter!!! Who knew!

Ate at Sebastian's last night. My family of 4 was immediately given a basket of exactly 4 rolls. We ate them and asked for another. When the 2nd basket of rolls came, my very young daughter accidently dropped her roll, so I asked for more. I was told "no." Our server said that the restaurant has a new policy where you are only allowed to get 1 refill on your bread basket.
*Posting so others won't be as surprised as we were.
Good grief, for the amount of money we pay you would think they could replace more than an extra basket. Thank you for the heads up.

I currently have a Sebastians reservation that I am very seriously am considering dropping because of this.

Don't give Disney any ideas. 2 rolls per guest is more then enough. The issue, to many of us, is not replacing the roll dropped by a child.

The issue, to ME, is that it has been one way for 2 years, and now suddenly it's a completely different way. Or is it? It's Topolino's brunch all over again. You get different answers from different people. Some people have been told you CAN ask for extras. Others have said that they were told point blank it is not AYCTE.

And, no, it's not about replacing one roll dropped by a child....it's about being stingy with bread in the first place. Like someone else in the thread said...sure there might be people out there taking advantage....but the amount of money lost by that is peanuts, and in the grand scheme of things, they money you get from being generous with your rolls and earning more business....it would be a net positive to them anyway.

I do want to counter the "2 rolls per guest is more than enough." Now, I am a picky eater. So, the rolls are one of the few things on the menu I will eat. So, forgive me if maybe I need more than 2 rolls.

Here's another issue, as I saw people mentioning that the portions are large. But, be that as it may....for me, the only protein I will eat is chicken. I won't eat any of the other meats. So, if I load up on chicken, that doesn't leave much chicken for the other people in my party. This is why being able to order more of certain things is so helpful....because some items may be more needed than others.

Finally, I saw people mentioning the price point, but I think that's a bunch of baloney. Whispering Canyon Cafe is in this general price point, and it is advertised as AYCTE....so, I don't think the price has anything to do with it.

That comment was about seeing the price, unless explicitly stated I would not think the price was getting me AYCTE, especially at Disney's price tag.

Sure I can get a buffet at my local casino for the price but it's Disney we're talking about. So for clarity Whispering Canyon Cafe does explicitly state AYCTE, Sebastian's does not and knowing Disney's prices I would not assume (again unless explicitly stated) that one would be getting AYCTE at a low price (comparatively speaking).

So, the rolls are one of the few things on the menu I will eat. So, forgive me if maybe I need more than 2 rolls.
I think a lot of people get that but I'd hazard a guess that for the most part when people are dining out it off sets itself. Go in a group of 4 and maybe 1 or 2 people or even 3 are totally fine with just 1 or 2 rolls. You want more than that? Okay that gets offset. That is however probably why they (as far as reports are going on this thread) base the basket based on a set number per group. If let's say you have 4 people and you allow a refill that's 8 total rolls if even just 1 of that group of 4 doesn't eat both you've now given yourself 3 rolls and if let's say that 1 person eats their first 2 but then a refill comes and they don't then you've now given yourself 4 rolls. I don't know how much bread any one person eats (sometimes I get really hungry too lol) but the majority is probably fine with only a few. It does probably make someone feel miffed at being counted like that in terms of how many baskets go to the table.

I'm really in the camp that bread is a common thing to refill and I generally like my bread baskets too lol but whether or not I think a place is penny pinching and should just not care how many rolls they given out all things considered I can also ponder why that may be the case.

I see what you're saying. I just disagree.

Almost every other Family Style meal on property, regardless of price, is and has been AYCTE. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume the same of Sebastian's. I also think it's strange that Sebastian's is the only one that isn't.

I am a very logical person. And....which is more likely? Is it more likely that this one singular restaurant is an outlier? Or is it more likely that this restaurant follows the same pattern as the rest of the restaurants, and the website wording is just something that was overlooked? Now...by word of mouth reports, we know it is the former. But...by logic's sake, I think the reasonable conclusion would be that the website is wrong, and what we know of Sebastian's, whether from previous experiences or vloggers, or whatever would be correct.

And yes, I know what the verbiage is. And, I know what the website says or doesn't say. But, I am the kind of person....I put a lot less stock in the wording on the website, and a lot more stock into historical precedent. Topolinos (yes, it's a different price point but I digress) is not specified as AYCTE, but we still know that you are able to order multiple entrees, sides, ask for more, etc. The point is...sometimes, the website/app isn't right.

Anyway, I hope people can turn Sebastian's around like they did with Topolinos. I don't think Topolinos was ever in danger of losing business, but there was some rumbles and bad buzz there for a while, and it sounds like that bad buzz straightened them out.

Hmm as a logical person as well I follow by the wording. I cannot logically think something is when it's not listed that way. That would be illogical!

I'm clearly not the only one to think about price. Unbeknownst to me other people in the biz felt the same about the pricing and wondering if it meant it was not aycte that one is from Disney Tourist Blog. They went on opening day and advised "Prior to doing the family-style meal at Sebastian’s Bistro, we suspected there was a catch, and speculated it was not all you can eat since the menu did not specify as much. That turned out to be accurate. At least according to our server, Sebastian’s Bistro is family style but not all you can eat."

NOW whether that has changed flipping back and forth IDK, whether someone could request from a server a particular dish again but not all the kit and kaboodle IDK.

wording is just something that was overlooked?
Do we really think Disney overlooked how to specify their menus? Disney may be a lot of things, overlooking things here and there, but specified language on their website is not one of them. They tend to word things exactly how they want them to be. Even in Disney's own blog back in June 2021 listed it as family style but not aycte. I suspect that in part because Sebastian's reopened fairly late during the pandemic this may have been a conscious choice.
