Does anyone have the link for military one souce's free tax program for the military yet?

If your spouse is not deployed there should be a tax center on post-i would advocate going to them-they sometimes catch major savings for you that the on line programs totally miss. The last time my husband was deployed they got me back a ton that i didnt know i was entitled too because we had been paying colorado state tax on military pay earned in wyoming ( hubby is NG full time in Wyoming-HOR is in colorado springs and im a contractor at ft Carson) They don't charge you and they usually do a good job-i cant use them this year because NG jags have gotten stupid about POAs and would not give me one-you need a special for the IRS to file thru the tax center without him.

I went to www.militaryonesource.com and you have to login with them to use the tax service. It is with H & R Block. It states not to go to the public H&R Block site because it is not the Military Onesource product and is not free. Hope this helps.:goodvibes

We use tax slayer too! DH was forced to go through a tax prep class when he first got to this base, because he wasn't cleared to go into the building he works in. He generally just does our taxes and we've never had issues, we should get back around 4500 this year if not more.

Thanks everyone! Myself and my hubby both used to work at the tax center on post and I wouldn't use them if my life depended on it. LOL I prefer to do them myself. We're easy. And its sooo much faster.

May I ask why you won't use them. We are going in the morning to get ours done.

They just don't know what they are doing there. They are mostly seasonal hire civilians that only have a one/two week tax course for training. There are a lot of mistakes. My hubby was JAG and was constantly fixing the problems, for months. One time, they were still resubmitting taxes well into June.

Some places may be better than others, but the two that we've been at/worked at were terrible. They file once a week, but sometimes are so backed up that it takes a few weeks, and we don't own our house, etc, so its quicker and so much easier to file ourselves.

I just logged on to military one source, and efiled our taxes, with two states, in a half an hour. I will have my refund back before they would have even been filed if I had an appt tomorrow. (at this post anyway)

Also, most tax places on post cannot efile your states, so you'll have to mail those out. We can efile them online with our federal and we get our return quicker.

make sure they do your states correctly - those always seemed to be the problem ones (each state has different qualifications)

I hope I'm not scaring you! I'm sure it will be quick and painless and it will go smooth. Easy peasy. We've just had bad experiences and we know enough to do them ourselves.

On another note, filing online was sooo simple! Military one source uses the H/R Block program, it was easier than turbo tax and completely FREE! I was done so quickly, I double checked them just in case. All was correct!
Disney, here we come!

Thank you. We have only done our taxes last year on post. I think we are going to Jackson Hewitt tomorrow. We have gone there since we have been married so I think I will keep them. I don't trust neither one of us to do it. We are on no rush to get them back since we aren't using them for our annual DW trip.

Good luck!!!:thumbsup2 It's nice to have them out of the way, though. I need to start getting baby stuff. :lovestruc

We used our local Army tax office a few time when Dh was in the service and they did ours wrong one year, so I never went back. I use TaxAct free through the IRS website and it is only $13.95 for state. Ours are pretty simple anyway, and TaxACT was very simple and easy to follow, and they send me e-mails all year about different tax deduction opportunities during the year and tax tips.

We did tax slayer this year and last. I almost tried the free h&r block through militaryonesource but decided to just stick with taxslayer. Glad it's done now :).

Well as with anything else its experience i guess-our tax center here-when i used them last -was staffed 100% with soldiers-and they got me back 10K i would not have even known i could get back-soo-i thought my experience was pretty positive. Ill be doing my own this year because DH is down range and the stupid NG JAGs wont issue POAs anymore with out an act of God and congress-it would take so long to get a special for the IRS that he would be home. I dont expect much of a refund anyway so its not a big deal. I use Turbo Tax for online filing-had a horrendous experience with HR block online a few years back and won't use them again (my older son was still our dependant-the software did not correctly process the check box for being claimed as a dependant by someone else and the IRS came down on us HARD.)
