I have renewed my teaching certificate and am interested in learning more about teaching online! If you teach at an online school, do you like it? Is the pay comparable? How about time off and sick time? How does it work, lesson plans, grade cards and assessments? Are there any to def. stay away from?

Not a teacher, a mom of 4 kiddos 15 to 36 all had certain schooling needs. The youngest is cyber schooled she had emotional anxiety issues. The assistance, time available for her, teachers will go into the live lesson room and work to tutor her on complex algebra, call on the phone and review confusion for Portfolio projects.

It must be extremely rewarding to have more hands on contact with kids, and feel instant feed back from that out reach.

On another note, many of her instructors were teachers in large school districts and find the ability to do much work from home, ie) snow days, no traveling or make ups.

All the books and computers the kids have from the school teachers are set to go.

My son attends Ohio Virtual Academy based in Maumee, Ohio near Toledo. It's part of a national school called K12 based in Virginia. They seem to have their ducks in a row as far as high school. The teachers seem to be happy and have formed some internal groups that meet and assist each other. My son is a freshman and isn't being as challenged as he could be but that will be the case until he gets into some AP/IB courses. We like it as the first classes are at 9am instead of 7:30 and he only has to make it to the office for class. I don't have the teacher's perspective but my husband is student teaching right now and he thinks it looks like the teachers are happy and have good jobs. They can teach a few hours, avoid expensive child care or care for an ailing relative and teach a few more hours. A lot of the online work is auto graded so even checking off homework and small quizzes is taken out of their hands.
