Online reservation question...

We have reservations for an upcoming trip----
but tomorrow the 7 month window opens.
I know I can make online reservations at 8am for November 7th.
The question is that I want to cancel the existing reservation to use those points. If I do that first then take a new reservation - how long does it take for the points to return to your account to rebook ?

The points are available immediately is the system works correctly.
