Online Passport Renewal

You dispose yours? I’m sad because they don’t stamp them as often like they used to, but I have a stamp from East Germany that I think is really cool!

By "dispose" I mean do they take it back, or let you keep it to do with it what you will?

I just have the old one, they didn't take it or anything. I have it in our safe along with other important documents.

I also thought - the horror.

In reality, you keep it. No mailing in.

It is considered invalid once you submit your renewal request.

This was incredibly easy to do. Just received confirmation that my application was approved. The email stated I will receive next week. The entire process took about 4 weeks. Not bad for our government.

I’m in the same boat. Both DH and I submitted 9/2. He got his a week later and I’m still stuck “in process”.

I did finally get mine. Just to recap, I submitted mine 8/31, got it in 35 days. DH did his 9/1, got his in 12 days.

Mine took about 5 weeks. My son got a new one and had to do it by mail and it took less that two weeks.

Even if you renew by mail and send it in they send back your old one.

I don't think it matters if its 2 weeks or 8 weeks. Just give yourself plenty of time and plan on 6-8 weeks. If you need it quickly pay for the expedited service or go in person.

I don't think it matters if its 2 weeks or 8 weeks. Just give yourself plenty of time and plan on 6-8 weeks. If you need it quickly pay for the expedited service or go in person.

You can only go in person if you have an urgent need, which the state department defines as foreign travel within 14 days or a foreign visa within 28 days. And there aren't many application centers these days. It's not like it used to be.

I did my renewal online. I submitted it on November 12, I received an e-mail noting that they received my request on November 14 and I received it in the mail on November 26. I was very pleased with the process and the status updates that I received from them.

The Passport Book renewal rate is $130 for ages 16+ and $100 for children 15 and younger. Based on the amount that @dvcscott mentioned, looks like they did the standard renewal for one passport with 1-2 day delivery (adds $21.36) for a total of $151.36.

I submitted one on January 19 and received it February 1. Thirteen days, including a federal holiday. I signed up for automated updates and was very impressed by the smooth, seamless process!

Wow that’s so fast! I submitted mine Jan 20 and it is “in process”. I’m a bit concerned about them accepting my photo so I keep checking status every day
