Can anyone recommended an online guitar course or easy to learn course from dvds for fairly beginnger guitar?

Take a real class. In my community, the community center or adult education has group lessons. You want someone to show you how to hold your hands, to get you through your first chords, and to let you know its normal for your fingers to be sore. Once you get that far, you might be able to self teach from a DVD or online.

Also, Groupon or other similar site used to have online classes on sale not too long ago...

The problem with DVD's, online, etc. is they can't see you to see what you're doing wrong and correct bad habits, etc. from forming. I think it could be very frustrating and likely discouraging to try and learn without personal instruction for a true beginner.

Thankyou for your suggestions.
Did a little more research and found someone down the street who gives lessons out of her home for $200 for 12 lessons, 30 minute lesson.
The first few places were more than twice as much. So we'll start here and see how it goes!

Its possible that if you really like it (or whoever is taking lessons) that they'll want a "more professional" instructor - lessons are often a you get what you pay for sort of thing - my kids took piano from a friend and got an introduction to piano, but if either of them had wanted to pursue it seriously, she was a poor teacher.

My son started with community center lessons and now has a guitar teacher with a masters in music who charges in that upper range - but we are also using it as high school fine arts credit for homeschooling, so we want it to be fairly serious.

But to see if it sticks, any in person lesson is going to be better than a book, DVD or online.
