Online Driving Directions - Need Help

I'm trying to get driving directions and having some trouble. I've used Google maps and Yahoo maps thus far without luck. I'm trying to get directions from Michigan to Vermont without going through Canada. Neither of the sites I used allowed me to pick how I got to Vermont, they just showed me how to get there...through Canada.

Is there an online program that lets the user pick a route or make changes to the given route?

Don't just follow the directions blindly - look at the map! I have tried to get directions to somewhere I know how to get to, to print them for someone else so I wouldn't have to type them, and was given very out of the way directions. These web services tend to always tell you to get on the highway, but sometimes that's not the most direct way. Look at the map and check out local roads too. They also talk about entrance and exit ramps like they are actual roads, which can be confusing. I have not seen any give alternate directions. You may want to try AAA's triptik service, which will give you very good directions and maps for each leg of your trip, all for free. Good luck!

Try picking an intermediate point from MI to VT that is in the US. If you do this, then it will "force" the program to route you thru the US.

I use Google maps or AAA and have found them both reliable. Have a nice trip!

Thanks for the tips, everyone!! I went to Rand McNally and did just what mrsv98 suggested. I told it I wanted to stop over in Cleveland and that made the route switch over to all American roadways.

I *knew* the DIS members could help me figure it out. Thanks!!!
