Online Check-in

I have never had a good experience with online check-in in the past, so I stopped using it. However, this trip, we would like to go directly into park on arrival. I have been prompted for online check in with Genie. Can I expect that I will be notified when my room is ready (big problem for me in the past) and that my iPhone can be used to access the room?

Most times we get the texts. BWV is the one that fails me most often.

I use a MB to open the door so can’t speak to that piece.

We’ve had good success getting text notifications that our room was ready, but others, like Sandi above, haven’t. Your room number will also be posted to MDE when it’s ready, so you can check there periodically if you don’t get a text. Otherwise, you’ll just need to check with the front desk when you go back to the resort. As to the phone opening the door, we tried in June, but didn’t have any success and used the MB instead.

Our trip last month, we had split stays. In both cases, we did not get a text alert. However, it did show up on MDE.

We've also had mixed results with how it works, but it's definitely worth a try. Theoretically, while you're at the parks, you'll get a notification that your room is ready, and what room it is. And your phone (if you don't use MBs) should open your door. A potentially indicator we have found is you'll get a notification earlier in the day to tell you they know you're visiting and your room isn't ready quite yet. That's followed hours later with the final notification and room number. If we don't get that initial 'room is not ready yet' text, we usually end up having to go to the front desk for some assistance. Good luck!

We've used online checkin for the last few trips and love it. I usually get a text, but I do periodically check MDE. However, my phone has never opened the door, but the magic bands that I have always do.

FOR ME, it seems to have gotten better in recent memory. I used to never get the texts, but our last few trips we seemed to have been getting them. Whether that's luck or a change on Disney's side, I can't say.

I have never had trouble with our MB's letting us in and of course you can always check the room number via the app. I have come to love online check-in!
