online check in?

We have been to Disney many times but I have never done online check in. I'm thinking about it for this trip but I'm not sure. We have always arrived late at night so going to the counter to check in was never an issue, never a line. This year we should arrive around 5 so I was thinking that maybe online would be a good idea. My issue is that we have a room request. We are staying at Sports and would love to have a room facing the football field. My boys loved playing ball in the evenings. I don't know how online check in works. Will they send me my room number and I get to the door and it's not my request (which I know is never guaranteed) do I go to the lobby and try to see if it is available, or can I hit the lobby first or is that defeating the purpose of online check in. Just trying to figure our the best chances of having my request met. Help! Tia

Your room will be assigned well in advance (3-5 days) prior to arrival whether you do online check-in or not. There is no issue if you check-in online; if you do not get something in your room request and want to see if it's available, you can still go via the lobby.

Remember, it is a request, and especially with a late arrival they may not be able to change an assignment even if it doesn't match up with your request, whether you check in online or not.

I'm staying at Saratoga Springs. When the room is assigned 3-5 days in advance will I be able to see the assignment on my itinerary? I'm anxious to see what section of SSR I'll be staying in.

No. You will not. You will not know what room until you get a Room Ready text, or check in at the desk. While assignment is done 3-5 days in advance, they don't want you circling the door like a vulture during clean and prep, and, in that 3-5 days, the prior occupant could try to flush a diaper and take the room OUT of circulation before you get there, necessitating reassignment.
