When I go to my WDW account site, it reminds me that in a few days I'll be able to "save time, skip the line, and check in online." What is this all about? Does it work with the campsites?

Yes it works with campsites. It may or may not save you a few minutes at check-in.

When you use online checkin, they assign your campsite the nite before your arrival. They also try to prep the site so there is no wait when you checkin.

Does anyone know how this works with a faxed in site request? Is it best to check in online before or after sending the site request?

We have done it the last 2 trips. I think that each time we did the check in, after the fax was sent in. Our experience has been good with the online check in, saving us a few minutes.

Did you get the site you requested?
Wouldn't mind doing online check in, but wonder if it effects your faxed request.
Of course it didn't matter on our October trip. Faxed request 4 days before arrival and got only site that had someone on it along the back of 2000 loop. The other 4 requested sites were free and clear. There were also 10 other sites not being used. :confused3 The one that was assigned to us had some of those thoughtful folks on it, you know the ones that head to the parks for hours, then come back and pack up and leave several hours after the 11 am checkout time. Fortunately, took a golf cart ride around the loop while waiting for a phone call our site was ready. I noted the sites that were available and went into the Outpost and they kindly changed our assigned site. The "thoughtful" folks finished packing up just as I finished everything with the popup and finally was pouring out a cool wine cooler as they were leaving their site at about 3 pm.
So, guess I'll try the online check in and see what happens. Next trip in Dec.

I faxed in a request and used the online check in. When I got to my site it really wasn't what I had requested. I looked around the loop and saw a site that I wanted. I just called the front desk. After being on hold for about 3 minutes, they told me to take the site that I saw was available. This was for a week, over the 4th of July, so it was full, but they made it happen.

I did online check in yesterday, but for a cabin. At the bottom of the check in you could also type in requests. So I imagine you could also put your site request there.

I always do the advance check-in (for campsites). It can't hurt.

Sometimes when I've checked into the Fort they have a sign out saying one of the check-in lanes is for people who have already done the advance on-line check-in. When that line is available it has moved quickly. It has not always been available though.

Give it a try!
