Online check in when still waiting for a waitlist?

I have been waiting for a waitlist to come through for several months now. The waitlist involves the first two nights of a six night stay...would like them to all be at the same resort. It is time for my online check in and I am not sure if I should do the check in at both resorts or if it could cause a problem if the waitlist comes through. Anyone experience the same situation?

Haven't experienced this particular issue but I'd wait on on-line check in until you have your final reservation. As Bill suggested, it's really not all that necessary to do the on-line check in anyway.

I would also wait to do the online checkin. I generally do it about a week before I arrive.

I have wondered that as well. According to member services it has zero impact on the waitlist. I believe I have had waitlist come through in the past after I on-line checked in.

Why do you use online check in?

Why not? I see no harm in it. I update my CC info. It gives me the opportunity to receive texts about my room on day of arrival (even before I have arrived), in July room I was notified room was ready while sitting at pool, without even letting resort know I was on property yet. With that said I still like to go to the front desk, and be "Welcomed".

We often don't receive texts, the front desk usually asks for our credit card anyway, we like to verify the room location as we check in at the front desk.

There isn't any harm but IMO limited benefit if any.

I have used the online check in option since it became available. I usually fill in room requests and have had success in getting those requests met. It's also nice to get texts about the room prior to arriving at the resort.

Isn't online check-in a requirement for the new direct to room access? We used it in May and completely bypassed the front desk. We were sent a text with our room # while we were on our way to the resort on Magical Express. Since we had our magic bands already, we went directly to our room. I would use online check-in again just for this. We are not concerned with room requests as we know they are not guaranteed.

True if you want direct to room, we don't.

Online check in and direct to room are another Disney cost cutting measure. Online check in was originally put in place to reduce check in time at the convention resorts where 30 people would be waiting to check in. It allows Disney to cut head count and works well for the cash resorts but DVC added it and with mixed results. The listed room requests are for cash rooms and often do not reflect the requests for DVC rooms.

Direct to room allows even more staff cuts and also allows guests to get to the parks quicker but it removes your ability to change rooms if you don't care for the view or location.
