This will be Disney running and relying on a new computer system. Based on past Disney experience with computer systems. I give it two days from up and running until it breaks down completely and takes a month to fix.
I'm not sure why people are excited about this......what's the benefit? From the sounds of it we'll still have to pick up our keys and info packet from the check-in desk, yes?
I guess I don't get it. (and agree 100% about the ability of Disney to keep this kind of computer system up and running......I have my doubts. LOL)
If run properly it will greatly reduce the wait time during peak periods and reduce front desk costs over time, which should benefit us in lower operating costs.
I don't trust Disney's computers - for the past week my points have been incorrect on the internet but when I call MS they say their system shows my points are ok. So - I ask well aren't the systems linked- MS responed NO. Now that's scary... Two different systems for the same info
Then MS says don't worry many people have complained that their points shown online are wrong.
If they do this like other hotels I have stayed at, you walk up to the front desk and they have folders alphabetically sorted with printed keys and all the necessary information for all those checking in that day. It takes all of 3 minutes to walk up and get this information. When you check in on line you can agree to have the charges for your stay added to your credit card so you don't even need to sign anything.
I'm actually excited about this! I'm sure it won't be perfect at first, but will probably save both those checking in at the resort and those who have checked in on line time.
What about those people that show up at 7am and tell the front desk that they would be willing to wait for their room if that's what it took to get their room requests?
I wonder if the CMs will have less 'flexibility' to reassign rooms if they are already assigned to guests that have checked in on-line.

Very good point !!! I guess we will have to wait and see...a chance to get your requests before you arrive? or no chance to ask when you arrive?
In general, I am always amazed at how much information they have to type in when we get there. Especially considering that MS has all the information necessary (except credit cards) already when we make the reservations. We never really have to wait in line but we definitely stand at the counter for a while as they endlessly click through screens on the computer and type in information.

There have not been any announcements regarding change in how rooms are assigned. As it stand, it does vary by DVC Resort now. Some use room ready, some pre-assign, and some give preference to those arriving on Magical Express. On Line check in was described as a way to enter your credit card info prior to arrival and have that ready. We will have to see if anything else transpires...

That's exactly what I'm concerned about also. Last trip, I was preassigned to a room with a view I really didn't want (overlooking road) at BCV. When I asked politely if it would be possible to get a "woods view", the CM nicely made one quick phone call and off I went to my woods view. The room I didn't want faced Spaceship Earth, so I'm sure someone else was happy too. Since the last time I asked, MS wouldn't take "woods view" requests (they told me "There is no such view"), I like the way things are at check-in.
