online check in, changing CC later

I would like to do online checkin for a room (we have 3 for our party) that ultimately, I won't pay the charges on. Will it be hard to change the CC for room charges once we arrive? I want to do online check in so that I get the room ready text. I don't want to create a big problem where I end up getting charged for meals and such for that room, but I really would prefer to get that room ready text in advance so I can get in there, do the bed bug check, stock better toilet paper, etc before my friends arrive. TIA!

Unless things have changed, you can switch the card to a different card at the front desk.

No matter what- I’d go to the front desk and check your card on file anyway. Last summer, I had my credit card info all in and after we went to the room- I just thought I’d better double check about my card before we headed to dinner. Turns out I was right to do so- even though I showed the Cast Member where the card shows up in my disney experience- it was not showing in her computer. She added it quickly and all was well- but she said that happens a good bit for some reason.
I will be checking our card arrival day from now on- we would have been in a mess had we gotten to dinner and our magic bands wouldn’t charge because there was no card in their file.

Changing the card should be no issue- didn’t take but a couple of minutes for the cast member to add ours.

ABSOLUTE AGREEMENT. Especially if the Res was booked through DVC.

For the last FOUR vacations... Front Desk kept calling us to verify CC. Conversing with a DVC Agent? We discovered that WDW was REALLY locking down Card Numbers within their own system. Having a CC on File is great for WEB charges - but more and more, WDW will not share this data with their own HOTELS.

We actually LIKE this. But we have changed our behavior. Yes, you CAN go directly to your room with online check in. WE DO NOT.

We use online check in - but STOP at the Front Desk ANYWAY, let them run our CC, THEN go to our room. You don't have to, but you may very well get a "Stop at the Front Desk" call about three days into your vacation

Also note that in the MDE app you cannow pull up your linked hotel reservation and when the room is finally ready it will show you the assigned room.

I do this all of the time without any issues. I like to use a CC up front and then pay off the balance with my debit card the last day. The only thing to note is that it automatically charges to the card on file at 6:00 am in your checkout day, so make sure to change it before then. They can still change it, but it's a bit more complicated.

Actually ours is usually run around 3AM checkout day.
