My
travel agent and I decided to tag team it today. We thought I might have better luck if she tried to book online, and I called.
She got on early and booked my reservations, and then I called at 7. After all the horror stories, I was worried, but I called right at 7am, and the menus even skipped all the questions you normally have to answer and went immediately to a very helpful cast member. He had trouble retrieving my reservation, but after a couple minutes, he pulled it up, and we were good to go.
When my travel agent had emailed me the reservations, for some reason, they didn't all display, so I ended up booking duplicates of everything she did. And when I say "duplicates", I mean almost all of our reservations were at the same exact time.
The reason I'm writing is:
1. When she emailed me my reservations, the screenshot gave my name and a phone number I haven't had in years. This goes along the lines with other people who keep putting in phone numbers and not having success. If you booked directly through Disney and can't retrieve your reservation, TRY EVERY NUMBER YOU HAVE HAD (this tip obviously excludes those unfortunate few who have the correct number, and it's still not retrieving).
2. It almost pays to have a travel agent book your reservations. I had asked for CRT lunch mid-vacation (so three or so days into the trip). She booked my reservations before the 6am opening for customers. When I called at 7, there was no availability at all. The fact that she was able to get in before regular customers was a blessing.
3. I was able to retrieve all of the bookings, hers and mine (meaning the 7am call bookings), and compare and cancel what I needed to. I just needed to use my old phone number for her bookings and my phone number for my bookings. This was EXTREMELY helpful, as the cast member had put a celebration of Anniversary and then "NOT_CELEBRATING" in. So there's a good chance no one would have said anything to us, thinking we weren't celebrating!
I was able to get within twenty minutes of every booking I asked for, and this included Le Cellier, Citricos, California Grill, Cinderella's Royal Table, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and Rose and Crown right around Illuminations time (on September 21st, 90 days today! Imagine that!). I was VERY impressed.
It sucked that I couldn't retrieve my own reservation and do everything myself, but it was great that I could go back and edit (with the exception of my duplicate California Grill reservation-- I had to call and cancel that one) as needed. It felt like some of the control was there.
I'm still very grateful my agent was able to get in earlier though!
