Hi everyone.
This past week I have had a terrible cold, I actually think I may have contracted Man Flu from DH as it has been particularly bad! ;)

I am still very stuffy nosed and have a barking cough, but my biggest problem at the moment is that I have no sense of smell at all! honestly I can barley smell Olbas Oil and we all know how strong that stuff is! :rotfl:

Has anyone else suffered this problem, and once my cold has gone will my sense of smell return? It's driving me mad!

Thanks everyone

Oh no - sorry to hear that you are ill :(

Everytime I have a cold, I always lose my sense of smell, and therefore my sense of taste too. Makes things seem bland for a while...

Anyhow, it always seems to return for me.

Hope you feel better soon :goodvibes

Sorry to hear you've not been feeling your best recently Gem, not got any tips for you on how to shift your cold, but hope you feel better soon

I hope you start to feel better soon  all I can suggest is lots of rest and I am sure you will feel better soon :goodvibes

Yep - a couple of years ago I had a cold (with no more than week break) for 8 MONTHS :headache: (plus a couple of chest infections, laryngitis countless times...the doctor and I were virtually on first name terms!).

Sudafed nasal spray saved me. That stuff is AMAZING. It's about £3.50 and you can get it in all supermarkets and chemists without prescription. It's one of the few products that actually does last the 8 hours its supposed to.

I didn't realise that Vics rub smelt of anything until my partner was using it two years later - despite getting through an entire tub of it that winter, I never realised it smelt!

Keep an eye on yourself - last year I had a manky cold for a couple of weeks and thoght I'd pulled a muscle coughing - I couldn't even lie down without it hurting. Went to the Dr and he diagnosed pneumonia and pleurisy, and signed me off for 2 weeks. "Yeah, right" I thought, "two weeks lolling around and I'll be crazy to get back to work". In fact I was off for 8 weeks and had to go back on reduced hours. Because I don't smoke and am not asthmatic I never even thought I would contract pneumonia:scared1: If it hurts to lie down then see your Dr!

Thanks Bethan, I can't remember ever having this trouble before, but this morning I could smell my shampoo in the shower so that is an improvement!

The chance would be a fine thing! DH & I run our own shop and it's the busiest time of year for us now - time off is not an option!

:scared1:8 months!!! I don't think I could cope with this for 8 months!
I might try some of that nasal spray! Thanks, recommendations are greatfully received!

A friend of mine had pleaurisy earlier in the year and she was terribly ill, I am hoping that this is just a particularly bad cold.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks!

Well I must say that I feel a touch better this morning, although when I woke up I thought my eyes had been superglued together as they were all gunky and glued shut! I have now got conjunctivitis to add to my ever increasing list of ailments! I managed to get an appointment at the Dr for 7.10 tonight so I will go and get some drops, they are red raw now and itching me like mad! It is just one thing after another lately!

Thank you all for your good wishes. :grouphug:
