All right! Today was payday and I did some sorting of things and a bunch of math and got our preliminary Disney budget underway!

I contributed to both funds, but I also paid off the deposit for the Disney trip. $200 USD cost me $266 and change Canadian. Yuck!

Anyway, I'll do the update in a bit...right now I want to outline my goals for the two trips. I need $150 of found money each month for June, July and August for the Paris trip. I have set my goal for each month to reflect what I should have by the end of them combining the found money as well as the savings that are factored into the regular budget. In September, all found money will go towards Disney. Even though this likely means that the next three months will not accumulate as fast as the fall months, I have decided to aim for $200 a month in found money and have set up my monthly goals accordingly. Hopefully, it will all balance out by the end of November...but I do have my contingency plan if I come up short.

Paris trip

June goal $685
July goal $1035
August goal $2185

Disney trip

June goal $650
July goal $905
August goal $1160
September goal $1730
October goal $2890
November goal $3575
December goal $4575

So...

By the end of June I should have $685 in my Paris accounts and $650 in my Disney accounts.

**The Disney stuff is still not fully accurate, as I have a mix of Canadian and American currencies and my calculations were all for Canadian currencies but until I streamline it more (since it's in my favour right now) I'm going to leave it as is.

Since my last update I have added $106.89 to my Disney funds because I...

earned $2.58 from quickrewards...
added $0 to the USD cash pouch...
added $0 to the Disney jar...

$436.31.00 in the Florida account...

...for a GRAND TOTAL of $690.53!!

I'm late to the party, but have really enjoyed reading this and watching you building two vacations from 'found' money!

Congratulation on your husband's promotion and raise! That's fantastic!

I love that your family is willing to be frugal so you can meet all your needs but still vacation easily!! It's so much more difficult if you have to try to be the task master to get it done lol.

Afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian is such a fun experience! I went with a good friend and really had a wonderful time!!

Looking forward to more updates!

Yes, I am very blessed that they are so accommodating...makes my job a lot easier!! In fact, DS came home today with a form for the sixth grade trip next year (his school goes from K to 6 so they always have an overnight trip for the "seniors" in the fall. They ask the fifth graders to sign up for at the end of the school year so they can collect a deposit and get a rough idea for numbers) and declared that he was uninterested in going. DD didn't go last year, so I wouldn't have approved it anyway...but it was hilarious to hear him telling DH..."it's THREE HUNDRED AND TEN BUCKS! And I'd MUCH rather use that money on a family vacation instead of some dumb class trip.

I've trained him right! :rotfl:

You're the first person I've heard from that has had personal experience on the tea...so I may pick your brain about that later on. DD is really excited about it...like CRAZY excited about it and I just think it's going to be one of those fun experiences we just shouldn't miss!

You should have seen my first One Year to Save. DH was so sceptical that "scraping together a couple of bucks here and there" would amount to anything that he was pretty down on me for it. But, I have a stubborn streak...so I quietly continued my saving and shocked the H E double hockey sticks out of him after about 4 months when I declared that I had $1000 and had booked a Disney Christmas trip. He came around pretty quickly after that and every time we took a trip we started out fresh again for the next one. That was in 2014, so it's old hat for us now and most of the time no one even noticed the frugalization! (I coined that word...it means "act of being frugal"...what do you think?) :rotfl2:

Frugalization, lol I love it!!! Awesome and descriptive!!! I love that you made your husband into a believer!! $1000 in four months is fantastic!!

I was an RN for 24years, but three years I became disabled. When I was working, I would hoard money, and when I got enough, I'd plan a vacation. We went to WDW for 19 nights one time! Now things are so much different, but I'm still saving for Disney, lol.

Afternoon tea was so much fun, because even though we came from a park, the China, flowers, tea cosey's, tablecloths, as well as the food made us feel 'fancified', one of my made up words, lol. The food was very good! The courses vary based on which tea you choose. I noticed that there are several changes from when we went, but many things sound very similar.

The pastries are beautiful. I was so full I had my choice of pastries wrapped to take with me. My daughter enjoyed them as she did the Jim Petty driving experience with her husband while we were at tea. I had the equivalent of the Bedfordshire Tea, but at that time the sandwiches were served alone, not with berries, cheeses or Lavish.

I'm sure you and your daughter will have a wonderful time! The service was wonderful and the tea, which is a hard choice, is wonderful!!!

What an excruciatingly painful earning day! I checked my survey websites multiple times and couldn't make anything for Paris at all and only with painstaking effort finally managed to cobble together a respectable amount for Disney with a couple of low paying surveys and some radio loyalty credits. In the end, I was lucky to find a couple of loonies (Canadian $1 coins) in my change purse that I had been saving for teacher presents, but I figured $15 was going to be just as effective as $17 at buying jelly beans (I found them on sale for $1.99 a pound at the Bulk Barn and the sale goes until the 9th), so I confiscated them for the Paris jar.

I did technically have the time today to work on my Disney budget, but I didn't have the mental capacity due to a couple of nights of poor sleep, so I don't have anything to report on that yet. But it looms on the horizon...so I'll try to get to it soon.

Alright! I feel guilty about the delay...so I'm going to slap our current itinerary up here right now. Just keep in mind that this will likely change some (or a lot!) between now and our 180 booking window. Once the meals are locked in...it will likely be pretty firm in terms of schedule and we'll only be making tweaks to it at that point.

Unless otherwise stated...all breakfasts at Disney will be cereal and fruit in the room, we try to book travel hotels that provide a breakfast and we bring the cereal from home, so we just buy milk when we get down there. I usually pack applesauce or fruit cups as well.

Anyway...the work in progress:

Wed-driving down, Windsor to Orlando (or as far as we feel we can get safely as it's a 17 hour trip and the weather could be dicey at times) all meals packed picnic type stuff to be eaten in the car (breakfast pastries, lunch and dinner-sandwiches, veggies and chips and such) Will stay offsite at a travelodge or some such either near Disney or somewhere along the way
Thurs-(finish driving if necessary) check into POFQ--explore resort(s), QS lunch (or fast food if driving still to do), QS dinner, go see Yeehaw Bob's evening show
Fri-waterpark (don't know which one will be open or even if the weather will be cooperative but we get a free waterpark day with our ticket package), QS lunch, dinner at Olive Garden
Sat-golf and afternoon tea are scheduled for this day (but I'm already considering an itinerary shuffle), the boys plan to golf in the am and then hit CiCi's for the pizza buffet and our tea is in the afternoon, so we ladies plan to swim or shop (weather dependant), have a mid morning snack and then do the tea as a late lunch, once we rejoin the fellas (who will likely hit the arcade and perhaps swim whilst we are away) we plan to head over to Riverside Mill for the make your own pasta and magic cookie bars.
Sun-MK day, lunch at LTT, dinner at PVH
Mon-AK day, lunch at Yak and Yeti QS, dinner at Chili's (might have to change this up since AK should be open later by then, if not already)
Tues-DTD, resort day, lunch at EoS, dinner at Beaches and Cream
Wed-DHS day, lunch at Sci Fi, dinner at Backlot Express
Thurs-The is the day of my 5K race and stupid o'clock in the morning, current plan is to make this our Epcot day, snacking around the world for lunch and dinner at Via Napoli (I want to change this because of the ridiculously early start to the day--Epcot is my fave park...I don't want to be too tired to enjoy it)
Fri-enjoy Disney area until about 1 pm, driving for about 10 hours, travelodge or some such half way home, cereal in room, nice big breakfast reservation for an early lunch (possibly), fast food dinner or perhaps snacks and sandwiches in the car
Sat-continue driving home, roughly 11 more hours to Courtice, breakfast at hotel, fast food lunch, fast food dinner

Geez...just while I was typing this out I was thinking of a bunch of changes! This might get an overhaul. I'll be back.

New plan...

Thurs-(finish driving if necessary) check into POFQ--explore resort, QS lunch, Chili's dinner (reverse lunch and dinner if there is still driving to do), go see Yeehaw Bob's evening show
Fri-DTD, resort day, lunch at EoS, dinner at Oliver Garden

I love this post. It makes me want to make a post like this and it might help me save more money for my own Disney trip. Thanks for the ideas. I have a year in a half so If i start now I could have a good amount saved from all the little things I do to make a few extra here and there.

Both plans sound great! I understand why you wouldn't want your Epcot day to be your 5k day though, it being your favorite park!!

I really liked the MYO pasta as well as the MYO salad at Riverside Mills! Do you like Flame Tree BBQ at AK? My grandmunchkin already promised to share a rib/chicken combo with me when we're there. But, we may decide to have dinner at Sanaa that e evening instead. I can't make up my mind lol.

We ate at Flame Tree on our last trip and everyone seemed to enjoy it. That's a possibility. The real trouble is...we don't know how long we'll be staying there. Historically, this park has generally had an early closure time but that seems to be changing with the new stuff they are bringing in. In the past we were always through with that park by about 4 pm or 5 pm...now, I'm not so sure. It's one of DH's faves, so I want to make sure he gets his fill of it. I would love to hit up Sanaa for dinner but there's nothing there the kids would eat off the adult menu except naan and possibly rice. They'd eat at Boma but I don't want to fork out that kind of money for one meal when I know that much could feed us twice at non buffet restaurants. Also, I'm running the next morning...all you care to eat ANYTHING seems like a bad idea. In the end, we might go back to an earlier plan of the TS Yak and Yeti for one meal and Pizzafari for the other. I'm still looking at menu's and trying to cobble together a plan.

Happy to help! It really does add up quickly and the daily (or weekly--the lady who inspired ME to do this thread did weekly updates) updates keep me accountable as well as encourage me to see how regularly my total is rising.

Alright...I've started with AK and I've got a plan down for our meals. I'm trying to keep our food under $150 a day for most park days. That's one TS, one QS and one snack each. We will have lots of snacks in the hotel room and might bring some into the parks with us if we feel we need to. All breakfasts will be cereal and such in the room with one or two possible exceptions. We plan to share and get kid's meals and we WILL have extra money available should we find ourselves hungrier that we anticipate but after analyzing our eating patters for the last several trips...I expect this will be fairly on point.

So...Animal Kingdom:

Lunch at Pizzafari

DH can have anything up to $11.99 before tax (like the baked pasta bolognese for example or any pizza but the shrimp flatbread) and he will drink ice water

The kids and I are each going to get the kid's meal cheese pizza with chocolate milk, grapes and carrots. We will also ask for ice water on the side. DH can have my drink if he wants it...I prefer ice water and mainly drink that at home anyway.

We will also get the garlic knots to share.

Snacks (around the park, when the mood hits us)

DD and I have decided to get a mickey pretzel and an ice cream cookie sandwich and share them (we are terribly excited about this plan)

DH can get anything up to $4.69 before tax

DS can get anything up to $4.69 before tax

Dinner at Rainforest Cafe

(I originally had us doing our TS at Yak and Yeti but it came out cheaper and more satisfactory for DS by making this switch.)

DH can get anything up to $19.99 before tax and tip. He can basically get any of the burgers or sandwiches and a couple of the pasta entrees. Again, water as his beverage.

DD and I will share the Beastly Burger. It's two patties, so it's a burger each with only half a bun and half the fries. DS will have a share in our fries if he wants...not sure if DD likes waffle fries and I don't really care for them. Water to drink.

DS is going to order off the appetizer menu and get the chicken strips. (He is a crazy fussy eater but is excited about this option.) Water to drink.

Lunch should run us about $41, Dinner about $62 and $20 for snacks is a nice $123 (ish) total for the day.
