My Checkout 51 check came in the mail last night. And DH got a check for $20 from some class action settlement for some computer purchase from many long years ago. So, I'm pretty pleased with the progress so far. I still keep looking at the total and lamenting that it should be nearing the $1000 mark around now, but that behaviour is gradually lessening and I'm still holding out hope that I can use the first quarter of next year to eat away at that discrepancy.

My in laws generally give me a little cash for my birthday ($25 or so) although sometimes it comes in the form of a gift card. We will be seeing them tomorrow night...and I'm curious what I'll find inside my birthday card. If it's cash...I'm considering tossing it in here. They always tell me to put it towards something fun and they like to know what we do with the money (and me putting it aside for future vacations never feels particular fun to them for some reason ). But I can easily cheat that this time since we are planning on going to the movies and out for dinner over the Christmas vacation and I can just tell them we will be using the money for that. (The money has already been set aside in the budget so one way or another...some money would be free for the vacation account.)

I haven't fully committed to that yet though, so I do reserve the right to change my mind. If I can make it to January 4th with the money unspent, there's a good chance I'll have the willpower to toss it in for vacations.

**I have $150 sitting in the bank right now that is my own personal spending/birthday money. And I'm constantly hesitating about adding it to the vacation account. I've spent YEARS foregoing my personal monthly allowance so that the vacation account would build faster but for some reason, I just can't seem to bring myself to transfer it over. I'm pretty possessive about it this time around though and I think I know why. I guess part of it is because there is no Disney element planned for this next trip. When we go to Europe, we have no plans to visit Disneyland Paris and I guess part of me wants to start saving up for Disney WORLD again, so I won't let go of my own personal fund for anything else. I think the rest of it is just that I haven't had any spending money for four years and I'm ready to keep it to myself for a while.

Anyway...I am going to fall short of my goal for the month. December was just too costly for me to be able to shave bits off of the budget and put it towards the vacation account. I did okay with surveys and the usual savings but there was no opportunity for extra bits.

I've still got a day though...so I'll see what I can come up with. Perhaps, I can get a little closer than this with some creative math??
