Well after months of waiting since we booked our first trip to Orlando, it is just one week away!! ( I wonder if we'll be at war??!!)
We've got the tickets, got the passes, now my thoughts are turning to what to pack. Have any of you guys just got back or been at this time of the year? The temperature is looking good, do you think we will be wearing shorts and t shirts during the day? Does it get chilly during the evening, will we need jumpers and jackets? I really don't want to pack any more than I really have to as I want plenty of room in the cases for souvenirs/shopping. I've heared that people don't dress up for the evenings, should I leave my posh frocks at home?!

Hi Ali,

A week to go? I've usually packed and re-packed three times by now LOL.

The general rule in Florida is casual. Unless you are going somewhere special like Victoria and Alberts all the restaurants have a casual dress code although some ask for trousers on men. Coats etc are not necessary at this time of year although you may like to take a thin sweater as air conditioned restaurants etc. can get a tad chilly.

With regard to how much to take this really depends on whether you are staying in a villa or hotel. A villa will have a washer & dryer so you can launder all your clothes and need to take less. Hotels normally have washers somewhere but they are harder, and take more time/effort to use so more clothes might be necessary. Either way - leave the ballgown at home!

Have a wonderful holiday.

Hi Ali

Definitely leave all Posh Frocks and associated stuff at home! You will not need it. LOL

I have been at this time of year before, and we had a bit of a mixture of weather - but mainly nice. Do a long range weather forcast and you'll be able to judge what it is expected to be like during your stay here.

I would say that you'll need shorts/tee shirts for most of the time, with perhaps some joggers/lightweight casual trousers for early mornings and perhaps late nights. You'll need a cardigan type top or lightweight jacket for evenings, more so for in restaurants and shops - the air conditioning can be unbelievably cold.

Layers is the key.....we used to go out in the mornings with trousers and cardigans on, leave them in lockers all day, but they were ready for the evenings when/if it got chilly.

People tend not to dress up, even when going for sit down restaurant meals.......so chill out, relax and enjoy it. :) :) :)

Pack what you THINK you need....then take half out!!!!!!

I always pack the odd jumper and pairs of jeans, for the "chilly evenings" and then realise, for some strange reason, it is actually sometimes hotter at night!!!! I should know better by now!

We have only encountered one true cold snap and even then, just long cotton trousers and long sleeve top was still OK. You can buy clothing as such bargain prices, its probably better to buy anything you need out there rather than lugging stuff you almost certainly WONT need!

Definately no posh frocks unless you are going to V&As......cotton dresses (like Monsoon) are great for dinner.

Have a great time!

I've got this wonderful image of all these men in Orlando restaurants in their underpants!

I think the question of whether or not to dress up for dinner very much depends on you. You certainly don't need to if you'd prefer not to, but I feel scruffy and self-conscious if I don't, so I tend to take some dressier clothes. The beauty is that dh prefers to dress down (read "can't be bothered") and I never feel that we look incongruous.

We were totally unprepared for Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. We turned up at this nondescript building in our 'park attire' to find a majorly opulent interior. We'll definitely dress up next time!

Hi Ali

Im also going next week!!!yipe
We went last year around the same time, and at no time did we need any jumpers etc. even in the evening when sitting at night shows. Im only planning on taking my top, that im travelling in.
As everybody has said, it's up to you whether you dress up or not. You won't look out of place either way.

see you there!!

LOL Debs,

Is it just my husband who eats out in his underpants then?!?;)

Thanks to everyone for your comments. It looks like the diamond tiara will just have to stay at home this trip!!
I am determined to travel light, after all, if I run out of clean clothes by day three I'll just have to go shopping won't I?!
It is so hard to believe as I write this on a chilly March morning, that in 8 days, I will be basking in temps of around 80 degrees. (Sorry, I don't mean to make you all jealous!)

Hi Ali :)

We have often gone at this time of year and to be honest, we've had different weather experiences each time!! It can be chilly in the evenings and early mornings - if that happens, we wear layers and use a locker at the parks to put in unwanted sweatshirts etc. until the evening.

There has been occasions when it hasn't cooled down that much, but if it does you will be far more comfortable to be prepared for feeling cool in the evenings - and some restaurants have super efficient A/C so you'll want something extra for these as well!
