One Time Use Points and switching at 7 months

I'm planning a trip for Summer 2023 (Aulani) that I know I'll need to borrow points from my next UY and purchase OTU points in order to cover things. In order to be able to jump on Aulani at the 7month mark I was going to book a villa at my home resort for the same amount of points and then cancel / rebook to Aulani when my 7mo window opens. I know the borrowed points will be there...but do the OTU points also get returned to the UY of the trip in the same way?

Yes, if you buy OTU points for your home resort reservation and then cancel it, the OTU points will stay in the same UY as the home resort reservation. HOWEVER, when the 7 month window opens, you'll want to Modify your home resort reservation, not cancel/rebook - if you cancel, I'm not sure whether you'll be able to see and book with the OTU points online vs. having to call, but if you Modify you should be good.

Thanks! Great tip. Yeah, the objective is to not have to wait the extra hour until MS opens up to make my 7mo reservation. Which is why I want to get the borrowed and OTU points lined up and into the UY in advance.

The only problem is you can only get OTU points at 7 months. A solution would be to book a 7th month reservation now or closer to the dates you want, call for the OTU points and then modify that reservation. Of course, play with the reservation so it best fits the points you need.
