One thing that made you take the plunge?

I researched DVC for about 9 months before I bought. I wasn't really sure if it was right for my family at first because of the large upfront costs and the MF's. But we realized that if we could afford it now it would be worth it.

Maybe our vacation habits will change, maybe we'll be sick of Disney after 15 or 25 years, who knows. But right now my daughter is 6 and I choke up just thinking about all the great vacations and wonderful memories we will have as we watch her grow up! Nothing in our lives has ever gone as planned, so we figured do it now instead of waiting and regretting it later. I'm so glad we bought and I can't wait to take our first DVC vacation.

So for us, what made us bought was the simple fact that life is short.

Hi to all,
We looked at the BWI showcase last year and this year we took the tour and SSR. Enjoyed the tour and our "guide" was very knowledgeable and informative. I think we were going to take the plunge anyway but the current incentives pushed us over the edge. Needless to say we purchased 200 pts at BLT and can't wait to begin our DVC experience.

we got bit by the bug on our honeymoon in 2005. i started to do some research at that point, but DH didn't think it would work for us. we went back the next summer with friends, and he started to open up to the idea. when my SIL had triplets in 2008, we really started to consider it seriously, thinking that our 4 nieces and nephews might never get to Disney and it would be a great thing for us to do for our whole family. we received some incentive information in the mail the summer of 2008, and were pretty sure we were going to take the plunge while we were down there for our annual trip, but once we took the tour, it was a no brainer. the rooms were spacious and beautiful, and we could really envision what a wonderful thing it would be both for us and our entire family--and the cherry on top was that the day after we took the tour, i found out i got a substantial bonus, so that helped us get over any apprehension we were having about the cost.

we just took our first trip home and i have to say we couldn't be happier with our decision. and i think that one of the best things about being a DVCer is knowing that there's always another trip--psychologically, it just made the whole vacation more relaxed and enjoyable knowing our next trip is right around the corner. we are looking forward to trying out all of the resorts.

We toured in 2002 and was really interested, but wanted less than 150 points. Our guide didn't say anything about buying resale. Hmmm..:confused3

We found the DIS in 2005 and started looking at the DVC threads as well as the pictures on allears.

We finally figured out that we could purchase less than 150 points!

I've been wanting to buy for years. Last year we had a baby...so now we bought.

My reasons for purchase changed. Originally, I just wanted it as a place for my husband and I to escape and enjoy. After we had our son, I think I want it more for him and us as a family. I'd like my son to grow up with the wonderful family vacation memories of Disney and our "other home". Having a DVC makes that goal easier to achieve.
So...first time mom at 39....
first time DVC owner at 40...
and this year at 41...I'll take my son to Disney for his first trip.

I'll probably not be around by the time the contract is over but my son will hopefully be bringing his family and telling them about his visits to Disney and in a way...I'll still be with them.

The number one reason was a combined one. Both my DH and I fell totally in love with vacationing in Disney, but moreso it was a way to "force" my husband to commit to a vacation at least once a year. The guy is a work-a-holic and just never wanted to go away.

It took us from 1995 til 2000 to finally jump in. I was ready with our first cash vacation in 95. We took our then just 6 year old kids for the first time and stayed at the POLY. They were selling OKW. My husband said absolutely no, he didn't want to commit to the $$$. I was ready there and then. We went back in 98 and stayed at CS and WL. I tried, he still didn't want to. We went back in Feb. 2000 and stayed off property. We'd been driving for these trips, and after driving in from NY and sitting in traffic, taking 40 minutes to go 5 miles, then my DH said lets look. We meet with a guide, got all the info, and thought about it for 3 months. Finally signed the papers in May 2000! Added on 4 x:woohoo::woohoo:

Now we own at BWV and AKV (as you can see from my sig...) I want 50 more at AKV. DH is adamant about NO! Twins in college, one in private, so that's not happening now (but then again, that's what he said about our initial purchase and the 4 add on's!!:woohoo:)

I thought our kids would "grow out of it" too, we bought when they were 10. They're almost 21 now, and starting to take their friends on their own. My DD can't wait to get back everytime she gets home! She was there with her friends in March, we are going as a family plus 2 more 21 year olds (their friends) in January, and I saved a couple of borrowable points for them in case they want to go back after their spring semester in late May with some friends.

One would think it's going to change in a way where they don't want to go often.....it changes alright!! They need their own points now!!!:scared1::woohoo:

WOW I feel silly! :scared1:
We literally went to one presentation, and impulsively signed....we were there all day prior, discussed without our guide present, crunched numbers, and just figured that the way we like to vacation while at Disney, DVC was really the best option for us.

Fun thread! Thanks OP!
We took our first tour 4 years ago and bought this week!

After taking trips about every 10 months and realizing we are nowhere near Disney-burnout, we felt good taking the plunge.

Having 3 kids limits us to deluxes and even then, we are tripping over each other anyway.

It will be so nice to stay in a villa with 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, monorail access, and all the other perks that come with our membership.

Probably would have done it sooner, but the cost precluded us from doing so. We were lucky enough to snag some great incentives at the LI Doorway to Dreams Grand Opening event, so the time was finally right to take the DVC dive!

Well, my husband and I were looking into DVC back in 2006. We had the tour at Saratoga Springs. Back then we still had car payments, and a week later I found out I was pregnant.

Fast Forward, 3 years and 5 Disney vacations taken...and our cars paid off.

We have been meeting a lot of people from the Disboards, through meets and the Podcast cruise. Many of the meets have been held at the Doorway to Dreams store here in IL but we always had a car payment. Until today!
It was the 2 year anniversary of the D2D store and Mickey and Minnie came and there was a dance party. We brought our son Aaron Mickey to the meet and he was very shy at first of Mickey and Minnie but soon he opened up and we had tons of one on one time with the characters it was awesome! Soon it was time for the characters to leave and while we were saying bye to them...I told Aaron that they have to go back to Walt Disney World....and this is the face he was giving while they were walking away.....this right here is why I bought DVC. This face will get to go to Disney until he is 50 years old!

OH...I loved reading this story!

Took us 5 years. Went in 95, stayed at the Poly. I wanted it right then and there, DH didn't. Went back in 98, stayed at CS and WL. I wanted it right then and there:lmao:. DH didn't. Went back in 2000 stayed off property with another timeshare we used to own, because we just couldn't get in the gates with a trade, traffic coming and going to and from the parks like you can't believe! DH wanted it right then and there! :lmao:Bought as soon as we got home!:lmao:

Added on 4 times since, want 50 more points, and then we'll be done....really:woohoo:!

We have been looking for about 3-4 years. I like the idea that we know we will be going to Disney (or some place) every year. I did the research, talked to a guide, ordered the DVD and worried about paying for it. But now I just sent the check for our resale yesterday. We will be proud owners of 160 points at AKV.
We were ready last year when my DH got laid off. Then he went back to work and I got a small inheritance, so I decided to take the plunge. It took us a few months to find the right resale and pass ROFR, but I hope to be able to make our reservation soon for our 10th anniversary in August.:cool1:

Considered it for about 4 years, but never pulled the trigger because there was no monorail resort. Once BLT opened, I figured we'd stay there on cash or as a rental and then if we liked it we'd buy there. But once the points got lower than $100 with the last round of incentives, I figured the money toward a cash visit could just go towards a purchase. The final factor was VGC. We are west coasters and can go last minute, so I figured the opportunity to use my points there for a night or two here or there was a good reason to buy. Perhaps once VGC is sold it will be tough to get at 7 months, but we'll see.
