You know the ones, you walk in and there is a sink and then stall with a locking door.
Do you leave the main door open but lock the stall or do you lock the main door making the whole room inaccessible.

I leave the main door unlocked if there is a separate stall to lock. Why would I want to lock someone out from having access to the sink? If I'm not using it at that moment, then they are welcome to it.

I also lock the stall to leave the sink accessible.

I would lock the whole room....I like my privacy. This is the situation at my workplace. I'm only going to be in there a couple of minutes so it won't hurt them to wait.

Depends on my mood. Generally I leave the door unlocked. But, if I want the extra privacy of no one standing right outside the stall waiting, then I'll lock the door. It's a "one person bathroom," so to speak, so unless they really need to get to the sink, they can wait their turn to use the whole bathroom.

If there's a sign that says "Women" on the door, I lock the stall and leave the main unlocked.

On the other hand, if it's a unisex/family bathroom, I lock the door.

One time when I was just brushing my teeth after lunch in such a bathroom where I work, I nearly gave one of my male colleagues a heart attack because I didn't lock the door (hey, who cares if someone comes in while I'm brishing my teeth?) He must have thought I was performing some weird female beauty and/or plumbing ritual because he said, "holy ****! You've gotta lock the door when you're in here!"

In a restaurant or rest stop, where it is the only facility, and someone may make use of the sink, definitely lead the main door unlocked and lock the stall.

I would imagine that if it is in a rest stop one would definitely lock the main door. Leave the main door unlocked and you open the door for an assault. Could actually happen anywhere.

Our bathroom at work is like this. The outside door does not have a lock but one goes in if they see someone is already in there.

Including right outside the door. The point is that there are other people who are at the rest stop needing to use the facility, such as to wash up after having a picnic lunch. If the intention was for folks to lock the outer door, then there would be no need for a lock on the stall.

I'll grant you that if there aren't any other cars in the rest area, then fine, lock the door. Otherwise, leave it unlocked, please. Thanks!

And thanks for taking the time to reply to my message, specifically. :goodvibes

I don't think I have ever been in a public bathroom that is a one person bathroom but has a lock on the outside door, and a lock on the stall door.

If it's a one-person bathroom the toilet and sink are in the same little room, and you lock the main door. There is no stall door to even lock.

In my experience, a lot of the rest rooms with just a stall are reflections of rest rooms originally designed with two stalls, but reduced to just one stall when the rest room was made handicapped accessible.
