Hi,
It's some years since I have been to my favourite place on earth.now my kids are almost grown and will be age 15 and 17 next August when I return. Problem is my 2 daughters squabble non stop and I am worried how it will affect our stay. We have vacationed around the world a bit past few years and have been fortunate enough to get one bedroom suites for very cheap. I want to keep hotel costs down but stay onside. Due to our families ages I think values are a no no so 2 rooms there is out. I have previously enjoyed moderates such as por and cbr that would accommodate us and allow us to step immediately outside room to outdoors but worried inside will be cramped. I am wondering of anyone here has had similar experience (2 rooms 2 pricey) upgrade to deluxe possible but no immediate outside access for cooling off time for teens ?

I would look at the new suites at AoA; they are a value, but are brand new and they do have corridors.

Yeah I have looked at them thanks. The problem is if they can stomp off in their teen huff directly outside the room - ie - door opening direct onto grounds I think that would help calm things. I must be dumb. I thought having 2 kids right after each other would make them bosom buddies - "wrong" -
Which is why I was considering a deluxe room ie akl bunk beds , just worried about no outside access issues : /
Thought having 2 girls close would be easy : D - not in my case !
Thanks
Akl room cost around our stay time = $265 per night extra interior room nicer resort and bunk beds
Por or csr = $175 per night access to outside grounds but cramped inside and shared bed : o
The joy of teen parenthood ! : D

I would reconsider the idea of 2 rooms at a value. I feel your pain. I have two boys 18 & 20, and would never want to share a room with them. The theming may be a bit juvenile, but I wouldn't care if it got us another room.

Welcome to the wonderful world to teenage girls. Been there, done that, and somehow we all survived (personally, I think it was a miracle). They fought like cats from the time they hit puberty until they went off to university.:rolleyes1 So you have my profound understanding and sympathy.

I agree with your rationale for selecting a mod- and I really don't think the rooms themselves will be that cramped. The ability to just go outside until the 'huff' has deflated can be a trip saver. And it's kind of nice for mum and dad to be able to do the same. We liked the mods just for this reason.

While I love CBR, I think you would be better served by one of the other mods, since CBR only has double beds. Better for the girls that they have a queen size to share.

I think 2 rooms at a value is going to be the best way to go in your situation.
:thumbsup2

Maybe a deluxe with a balcony for the times one of the girls needs to cool off would work?

Thanks for replies. I thought it was just me having teen tantrums !
You look around and see perfect family vacations. My kids are good in general just seem to hate each other ! They are soo different in nature though have same common interests ie love Disney etc.
Also I cannot understand how long it takes to get dressed to go to theme park !
?

having 2 of my kids your kiddo's ages I feel your pain but put your foot down and tell them you won't tolerate that behavior on vacation.

I'd definitely reconsider 2 rooms. I'd do 2 value rooms before I was stuck in 1 moderate room. You want two bathrooms too with 3 women! Check out the new LM rooms at AoA. Brand new value room with an opening to the outside :)

Does the UK have any specials right now for your time frame? I don't think with free dining there's a real benefit over going moderate vs value with the UK offer (Think it's QSDP for both)

Yeah that was my thoughts too ( and hopes)
Cool off time is vital with them . However would a balcony give enough vent space and time for angry hormonal teen ?

Honestly bring back the 5 and 4 year old days - it was much simpler ! : D

Ps - our time frame in uk gives free dining to moderate and aboves. It may seem like no brainier to go for deluxe for few $s more but it limits outdoor stomp off space!

If only one of them is out there with door closed, it should. Can't they just go for a walk even if they have to leave the building?

have you considered renting a DVC 1-bedroom from a DVC member?

now this is not cheap - but would definitely be around the moderate you are looking at.

best yet - the 1-bedroom at BLT and AKV (Kidani) have 2 bathrooms in the 1-bedroom - they also have a besides the sleeper sofa, a chair bed in the livingroom. the living area is a good size - so throw the teens in that room.

Now OKW also has the chair bed - but only one bathroom - that say it might be cheaper.

if you want room - would go with a DVC resort - they are also in the epcot area bcv and bwv

We're doing the suite at AoA with DS16 and DS12 plus two 4 years olds. Inevitably the little ones will sleep with us leaving 1 bed for each teen. We're also thinking that the arcade will allow for some 'alone time' for the older kids when they've had enough of each other and their little brother/sister. Plus, just how long do you intend to spend in the room at all? We're planning to let the older kids spend more time out by themselves (as long as they're together) and generally they only pick at each other when they're bored. If they're bored at WDW at any point, then I'll want my money back!! :rotfl:

I have four daughters and I so feel what you are going through. They can be great but then there is the other side. I plan a lot for our trips and the last thing I want to do is listen to arguing. So I would tell them that if there is any arguing on the trip you are leaving them at the hotel to work it out and if they can manage to do that then they can enjoy the parks with you. At there ages I would have no problems taking their cards so they can't access the parks and then leave them to work it out. Doing that once would probably be all it would take. I know to some it may sound harsh but honestly at their ages they should have enough respect for you to know it is not fair. I say this having kids the same age and I feel the same way about mine. Good luck I hope you have a wonderful vacation

we are squeezing into a room at POR for the 3rd time with our 3 "kids" who are now ages 22, 20, and 16. Does that sound like fun or what??? Actually they normally get along better at Disney than at home, and all agree to the "no bickering on vacation" rule. Close quarters and constant bickering makes for a grumpy mom. And then no-one will have a good time. Usually it works pretty well until the last day or two when everyone is showing signs of getting tired, and then we start taking a few more breaks.

Try the Polynesian.

For some extra $$, try Poly CL. You can still get free dining there and the CL lounge gives your DD's a cooling off place to go to if they want to get out of the room/away from each other. We stayed there before and are headed back there in a few weeks with 17yo, 14yo and 11yo. :)

I agree. We have three kids, now 24, 21 and 17. They have always been good travelers, so we are lucky, but the Poly CL gives them some breathing space. One can go and grab a soda or a snack and sit in the lounge if they need some space. For us, it's worth the extra $$.
