We no longer are considered family of 4+1. We are now family of 5. Should I attempt to get a room to accommodate all or get 2 rooms?

IMO, you need to figure out your budget and where you want to stay. You may be able to get 2 rooms at a value for the same cost as 1 room at a deluxe. But you can't guarantee they'll be adjoining rooms--or even nearby--and I'm assuming your children are young and you'd want them with you.

I'd either look into POR, which has rooms to accommodate 5 (with a pull-down Murphy bed in the Alligator Bayou area) or a deluxe resort that has a sofa for one of your children to sleep. Price them all out and narrow it down by what your family's needs are.

There are also the cabins at FW or suites at ASMusic or AoA

Your cheapest option is POR, then the value suites and cabins, then deluxe (but not every deluxe sleeps 5).

You could also look into renting DVC points.

Thanks for your suggestions. My concern for POR is room. Will we be on top of each other? And if I can't be guaranteed adjoining rooms than that would be out. Now if I can talk DH into a deluxe room like Contemporary or such. Lol He feels we don't spend enough time in the room to justify the price. I disagree! Lol maybe since its been a little time since our last trip he will give in!

I know you can't guarentee connecting rooms but we've never had a problem getting connecting rooms as long as it was listed on our reservations. This includes traveling 4 times, all as adults who obviously don't need to be connecting its just easier.

With 5 people I'd consider # of beds and # of bathrooms first and foremost. I don't like to share a bed and only having one bathroom to use in the morning can really slow you down.

Sharing beds is not an issue for us but with 3 kids from ages 8-13 I don't want us to be squeezed into a tiny room. I didn't have a great experience the couple times I stayed at a value hotel so they are kind of voodoo for me. I would like to attempt art of animation but I figured for the price of the suite I may be able to manage a moderate or even a deluxe hotel. Than you for your input!

You should really look into renting DVC points. It gives you a deluxe resort at an affordable price. We rented for our first trip last year and are doing it again later this year.

I could have written this two weeks ago as we have also always had our connecting room request guaranteed....until last week! We did a split stay at the BC and Poly, had two rooms booked at each, and were traveling with our three boys (12, 15, 17). We got connecting at Poly but not at the BC...we were in 3714 and they were in 3721. They are old enough so it wasn't an issue and we had spare keys made up, but for kids your ages, I wouldn't risk it!

Seriously I don't think 2 rooms is even an option with the age of your kids. You would have to put one adult in each room.
We loved AoA LK Suite but you are right for the price you should be able to find a nicely discounted deluxe. We were able to use credit card points and stayed at AoA last year - 1 night 'free' and another deeply discounted.
The Family Suite had so much space and 2 bathrooms. That was such a treat for morning time. The little snack area was great for cereals, granola bars juice boxes and milk and water.
In a deluxe you are slightly more crowded than the family suite. CR is pretty expensive among the deluxes. Epcot resorts are a little less. Just wanted to put that out there.

I too was thinking of changing our ressie (again, lol) to get 2 rooms (adjoining if possible) our kids are 14 & 17, so they're not babies by any means!
Does anyone know why you're not able to book a connecting room @ Disney? I know it's not guaranteed at any hotel, but Disney seems to have such a large inventory of rooms.
For what we're paying to get more space @ BWI in a Garden Cottage, I think we might be better to book 2 rooms.
I saw a great deal on one of the travel websites that 2 rooms would've been a good deal. I'm always afraid not to book thru Disney Travel though.
Anyone else?

Yeah, being a family of 5 stinks when traveling. We solved the problem by inviting two more people :rotfl:

I know that sounds weird, but we actually save money that way. My FIL and MIL are coming with us so we are getting a two bedroom villa for significantly less than the cost of two deluxe rooms.

If they weren't going to come I was probably going to choose between Poly and AoA and I would have been here asking the same question.

Rent points from dvc member. Get a 1 or 2 bedroom, 2 bedroom at animal kingdom has 3 bathrooms and 1 king bed and 2 queens sleeper sofa and sleeper chair. 1 bedroom has minus the 2 queens and only I believe has one bathroom but may have 2 not sure. We stayed her 2 Jules ago and loved it there the only down fall it is so large.

I believe Disney will guarantee connecting rooms if there are minor children in the other room

We just got back from BC and we had 5 adults in one of their regular rooms with a day bed. My dd who is 6' tall slept there and found it quite comfortable. We got a deal from a travel agent that saved us over 300. From what we would have paid for AOA.

Just to be clear, in Disney speak if you want the inside door between 2 rooms you need to ask for Connecting Rooms. Adjoining Rooms are just rooms that are near each other.

And to the poster who asked why Disney won't book connecting rooms, Disney doesn't guarantee even bookable room categories. What room you get is subject to availability. So even if it was bookable, it would still not guarantee your getting connecting rooms. And this comes from someone who has twice now booked a preferred room at the All Star Music and been downgraded. Disney guarantees nothing when it comes to your room.

We're you credited for being downgraded? We've never Rec'd something less than what I booked or payed for, so I'm just curious.

We've never booked a room in Disney & been downgraded.
We're you credited for the amount you paid for preferred @ the time of check in?
Just curious.

Yes, I was credited after I returned home and sent off an e-mail. They offered to move me if a preferred room opened up. I declined as it was a short (4 night) stay and I was on the dining plan. I didn't want to risk that being messed up, so I decided to stay put. Well, they take that to mean they don't need to reimburse you. Which is crazy. But I know another poster has had the same experience!
