One Ressie, one waitlist - have to borrow?

I wanted to verify this - I have ressies for Thanksgiving at SSR. I would like to waitlist for sometime in late Dec - early Jan which would include NYE, which I know is next to impossible. That would only be a substitute for the Thanksgiving trip if we got it - we couldn't do both. I would have to borrow points to get the NYE ressies, unless my Nov ressies were cancelled first. If I waitlist for NYE and happen to get it, would they immediately cancel my Thanksgiving ressie, freeing up those points, or would they borrow the points, then cancel Thanksgiving. Or is that up to me, in terms of my instructions to MS?
Sorry if this has been answered previously and/or I should know the answer!

I currently have a waitlist for Sept for BCV while holding one for AKV. The cm asked if I wanted to use the points from the AKV one if the BCV waitlist comes through. I said yes so she said she would set it up that way on the request. I would suggest you be very specific with the CM when you request the waitlist as to which points you want to use.

AFAIK, the waitlist instructions are manually input and can be as specific as you want (provided the CM knows what he/she is doing and understands exactly what you want to do).

If it were me, since the 11 month window has already passed anyway, I would email (through the website) my reservation request. I would be very specific about how I wanted the waitlist to work if the reservation wasn't available. (i.e., want to waitlist for a reservation for xx dates, if waitlist works, then cancel Thx dates and use those points for new reservation. Do NOT borrow for new reservation, etc.). If MS can't do it the way you want, they should tell you so in a return email.

You can cancel the NY waitlist if it doesn't work in time for you. Keep in mind the 31 day mark to avoid holding points (for Thx reservation), and your banking deadlines as well as any nonrefundable airfare issues (if appropriate).

Good luck!
