Technically anyone who locks a thread is supposed to post a reason why. Its a rule.

My guess would be that it was only used as a post booster and people are supposed to post decent posts. Not just to rack up the count. I don't know. It's been there forever.

if you're not supposed to post random fluff to boost your post count, there wouldn't be an entire forum of games like one word association and fill in the blank. The game forum is a sub forum of the community board.
