We are going january 20-24th which is Mlk day and then the week after rise of the resistance opens. I’ve purchased 5 day 1 park per day passes with maxpass which is what we’ve done in the past. We have little ones and enjoy just spending time in one park each day. But with the holiday and new ride opening now I’m wondering if we should be doing hoppers this time considering no one knows what the crowds will do 😬 I’m a tad stressed I picked a bad week to go. So first would you do hoppers instead? And second Do I have to upgrade through undercover tourist (where we bought our tickets) or can I upgrade to a hopper at the park?

You can upgrade the hopper at the park. If you want more chances to get on ROTR I would recommend getting the hopper. Hopping at Disneyland is so easy to do, I get why people don't do it at WDW but it makes sense at Disneyland.

This is a good point I hadn’t thought of, it for sure gives more opportunities to try and get on. I’m nervous, we have four littles in tow so I’ve tried to set myself up to not be too sad if we don’t ride it this trip. But I’m also hoping we can make it happen.

Definitely hoppers, with max pass. Unlike at WDW, this is a must at DLR in my view.
See this is where I struggle a tad because we prefer one park per day usually. With young kids we love just tackling one park at a time. But this time around I think everyone is right, it may be worth doing the hoppers, especially to increase odds getting on the new ride.

We go about once every year and a half for 5 days with younger kids. We definitely won’t do maxpass but will always do hoppers!!! They are a must for us. With younger kids who like doing all the rides and shows maxpass just isn’t worth the money! Park hoppers always are!!! One park can often be significantly less busy!!!

Never do hoppers or max pass and have been so many times. We go for 5 days. This year we just didn’t need them and we were there the busiest time. If money is no,worries, then sure go for it. But for a family of 5from Canada, the cost is not worth it!

With the kids, we don't do hoppers because they can't agree on *anything* and opening it up to them knowing we can be in both parks would be headache inducing. But with my parents, we are doing hoppers so we can leave one park if it's too busy, or have plans in the other park. We're also taking a much more leisurely approach to the trip with my parents, and I feel like hopping plays in to that.

Given your current situation, I might do hoppers even with the kids, just to increase chances to ride things at a time that could be really crazy. Have you checked in to LMTC? We got our 5 day hoppers for $325 through them. Unfortunately they don't have maxpass though, so you'd have to add it. Even with adding maxpass for everyone everyday, it would only be about $9 more per person if you did the LMTC 5 day hopper than your 5 day 1 park with maxpass is currently showing at UT.

We don’t do hoppers. We just go to the park that we think will be least crowded that day. Our feet are already so sore by 2 PM. I can’t imagine trying to do two parks in one day. But then again, I’m not a marathon runner. If you have kids that don’t complain about walking too much, then consider it. Mine would just whine.

We always do hoppers. Makes it nice when the park you're in gets too busy and you can just go to the other. We also enjoy the freedom to go anywhere we want.
As good as DCA is, it's always a special treat to pop back into DL, especially in the evening, and just soak in the ambiance.

I'd consider it. The key is that it basically adds $50 to the entire ticket regardless of how many days. So the cost would be spread out over 5 days. It helped us a lot. Besides that, we got to go on my kid's favorite ride each day. We even went in just to get something to eat that was only available one place.

We have teenagers, and still go back for a nap! :rotfl: That's why we like the hoppers - open the park at one and get FP at the other via MaxPass, hop over and do those, take a rest & get some later FP via Max Pass, and then go back to the other park (or sometimes both) later on.

At DLR I recommend a park hopper - it is pretty easy to go back and forth! It is nice to be able to pull your fast passes for one park while in the other and walk across the ticketing area (And you can cut through Grand Californian if needed when leaving the parks!)

How little are your little ones? If they are under 5 I say you'll be fine without the hoppers.
If your group was older kids or adults I say get the park hopper.
