For some perspective, here' a list of all the restaurants that we dined at on our recent trip that wrapped up yesterday: Narcoosee's, Mama Melrose, Hollywood Brown Derby, San Angel Inn, Garden Grill, Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Inn, 1900 Park Fare, Tusker House, Tiffins, Skipper Canteen, Cinderella's Royal Table, Boma, The Boathouse, Trattoria al Forno, Paddlefish. So I guess you can say that 1) we eat a lot of meals and 2) we try a variety of experiences. We are two adults and 3 8-year olds.
Overall we felt Ohana was the most disappointing meal. The bread was good as was the salad. Out of the appetizers, the dumplings were good but I felt the noodles were too sweet, and the wings were just OK and the mini-corn and other vegetables were just kind of there and generic. For the mains, the chicken was fine, but the beef was terrible. The steak was so tough that it was almost impossible to chew. This wasn't the case of a single skewer either - I had asked for more from a different one to see if it was just one bad piece. I don't know what the deal was but the cuts of meat were just terrible - they weren't overcooked either - it was just extremely tough meat.
The bread pudding dessert was pretty good even though I don't like banana all that much.
As for the entertainment, I thought it would perhaps last a little longer than a short spiel by the entertainment guy and then the quick coconut race. Our server was good and attentive and came around several times to offer us more food.
As a whole, I thought the experience was pretty underwhelming. The overly sweet Asian cuisine feels a bit dated (but that might be part of the charm for some) and the "entertainment" was short-lived. I guess considering that the Poly is a deluxe resort, I was expecting a bit more. A lot of people seem to like it, so I acknowledge that what they are doing appeals to a larger audience. I guess for us we were expecting it to be better.
