One of my nights booked with Orbitz dropped by $35

I have booked the Hampton Inn at Liberty Station in San Diego through Orbitz for the nights of March 3rd and March 7th of next year. I have them booked with the option of paying at the hotel when we arrive and I have free cancellation up until like four days before. I was looking last night on Orbitz again and noticed the night of the 3rd which I had booked at a rate that came to $200 total had dropped to like $165, so I cancelled my original reservation and re-booked at the lower rate. Was the exact same room and everything, nothing different. The night of the 7th was the same price so I left that one alone.

But I was wondering if this sort of thing happens often? Or why the rate dropped $35? I am very happy it did and will continue to see if I can get the night of the 7th at a lower price too. But I just have never noticed this sort of thing happening for me, with Orbitz. Anyway, if anyone has any advice, experience or such with price drops with online booking agencies, feel free to elaborate,

I stay at Hilton brand hotels all of the time and they usually drop their prices, especially if the hotels are on the emptier side. That's probably why. When I book Hiltons, I check to see if the prices drop. Kind of like how I stalk southwest!

Had no idea. Thanks for the tip. My husband really likes the the Hampton line with Hilton so that is why I booked it, but I didn't know about the possibility of them dropping rates.

No problem! It's not a guarantee, but many times I am able to re-book for a lower price. My parents always stay at Hiltons (especially Hampton Inn) and my dad has been able to re-book nights at almost half the cost of his original booking!

Still learning things on the DIS, 15 years later. Great!
