OK, so if I am not on the dining plan, and we go to a buffet, and one of my kids (considered an adult) doesn't eat, is there just a $5 charge? DD will be 10, but eats kids menu food. I don't want to pay @27.99 at Biergarten for her to eat kids food. I thought we would do better to let her eat a kids meal at The Land or something like that, and then we all go to Biergarten after she's eaten, and she can get a shake or something. I thought I read once that they charge a $5 fee for not eating, but what if she ordered a drink only? Even the $5 is better than $27.99...

TIA! :goodvibes

There is a $5.00 fee for a characer meal - they may not do that at the regular buffets. You should ask the particular restaurant ahead of time.

I seem to remember the $5 surcharge at Liberty Tree Tavern, for Biergarten, I would imagine it would be the same, I would call Disney Dining and ask them, I'm sure they get this question often.

Some restaurants will do an entertainment charge for character meals if people don't eat, but it isn't all restaurants and even at the ones that do it is inconsistantly applied. Biergarten is not, of course, a character meal. Policy is that all members of a party pay to eat at a buffet, reality is that its at the discretion of the waitperson and frequently light eaters or people who skip dinner completely don't get changed. However, I would plan on getting charged full price and make plans appropriately. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

Call and ask and double check at the restaurant. On our last trip my DH didn't want to eat the Crystal Palace character breakfast with DD and myself, so he was going to wait outside (it was before park opening), but when I asked the waitress, he was allowed to sit with us at the table...no charge.

My mother and sister joined us at Liberty Tree Tavern. Since they had eaten dinner, they ordered coffees and desserts. They were charged the sitting fee on top of that as well.

This also probably depends on the server you get. There have been times with friends and by ourselves that we have been charged a small fee and other time we haven't. There doesn't seem to be any pattern so I would just ask beforehand.

How do you think your daughter is going to feel if you make her eat yucky fast food and you all get the wonderful buffet at biergarten. You are in disney..let her eat with you.

Sorry Webray...I had to laugh. If her DD is anything like mine, she would think the buffet at Biergarten to be "totally gross" and a hot dog a gourmet feast. :confused3

:rotfl: Yep, this is her! She is a dairy and bread girl, unless it's ultra processed meat (aka hotdog) or drowned in ketchup. I think she'd a vegitarian, without the liking the veggie part. We all love Biergarten, but she just loves the mac and cheese...and not much else. I just hate the thought of paying full adult price for her to eat mac and cheese. Perhaps she'll change in a year or so.... :rotfl2: OK, not likely.

Actually, she has a big time food texture problem, even worse than the flavor. She has a slight tounge tie and a very strong gag reflex, so, well, we do what we can. But when we are on vacation, we are ON VACATION, and that includes what we eat. No one has to eat their veggies on vacation. We are pretty health concious normally, so ordering anything off the menu, even if it is mac and cheese at every meal(and last trip it almost was for her), is part of the vacation. :teeth:

Thanks for all the input! I will call and ask when I'm ready to go! :goodvibes
