A friend invited me to join them on a trip to Disney The last weekend in March. I am flying down one day early because the flight is cheaper.
So my question is.. I want to treat myself to a stay on property for Friday night then meet them Saturday. What is my best approach to get a cheap rate? Do I just call and ask blindly? Do I get a travel agent?
I know there were discounts available for March but you had to book back in December. Any tips would be appreciated.

Depends on what you mean by cheap?

Also, since you are a solo traveler, you will be paying 175% of double occupancy.

I would check the rates for a value; for one night, it is worth it. You can then have your luggage transferred to the new resort the second night.

Disney's website is down for maintenance right now, so you cannot run the numbers. But you can go on this site or over to allearsnet.com; they have the rates per night based on double occupancy. You can get an idea over there.

I don't believe they have any special promotions for March that are currently running. For future reference you can check on the official web site under Special Offers under the Tickets and Packages tab.

Do you belong to AAA? You might get a small discount with that. Otherwise, you're probably looking at paying rack rate for a value.

If you don't care about the Magical Express, you might want to book the Swan or Dolphin. Great resorts right at the Boardwalk areA! And you can not likely get a room for under $200!

That's spring break, which means peak season at Disney. The only rooms you are going to get for under $200 are value resorts (Pop Century or All Stars). The Swan and Dolphin will be over $200. Are you staying on property once your friends arrive, and are you relying on Disney transportation? If so, I'd probably stay at Pop Century. If not, I'd consider an off-site hotel more of a treat.

Travel agents mainly book Disney packages, so that wouldn't help you. Check sites like Expedia, but I doubt you'll find any discounts that time of year. They just don't have to offer them to fill up. Good luck!

On Saturday night we are staying at the Swan/dolphin. Very excited about it because it seems really nice. She will have a car. But I like to have the themes of the Disney Hotels so that is why I would consider it a treat. I love POR (I REALLY love Poly but not without a code) Best price I saw for POR was 230.
