DH and I will be spending one night at the Contemporary in WDW before driving to Port Canaveral to go on our Royal Caribbean cruise. ( Hey, I can't fly to Orlando and not get my Disney kick somehow? ;) )

We will not have park tickets, but want to have a nice dinner that evening. Since we are staying around the MK, I can't decide if we should stick there and eat dinner (California Grill) or venture to another resort to dine. We want to stay under/around $100 for dinner for both of us. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I would monorail it over to the Grand Floridian, and either eat at Citricos or Narcoosee....Narcoosee is where you can view fireworks as well.
Citricos, in my opinion, has better food.

I would think that you could easily keep it under $100, if you watch it.

I think I would want to venture out even if I didn't go into a park!! I would eat someplace were I really enjoy the menu and ride the monorail to EPCOT just for the ride!! I remember before EPCOT was opened and the monorail was built, you could ride to see the progress!! It was fun. I think I would visit and walk around some of the Resorts (esp the WL my favorite, by boat!)

Lots of good choices to be had just a monorail ride away. How about Narcoossee's or Citrico's at the GF? Or maybe a boat ride to Wilderness Lodge and going to Artist Point there? These are all perhaps a bit more than $100/couple but they are on a par with CG.

Another good choice would be Kona at the Poly. Cheaper than the signature restaurants above, but still very good.

Kona Cafe is one of those unsung heroes at the monorail resort loop. You'll definitely stay under your budget there, and the food is decent.

In October, I sat at the sushi bar (open 5pm-10pm) outside Kona and ordered one of the Kona appetizers and a sushi roll. While the sushi didn't wow me, it was still ok. But the crab cake appetizer did surprise me. It was a winner, and I would definitely order that again.

My last dinner there was in 2007, so I cannot comment on the food other than that. But I had a terrific experience then, so I keep this place high on my recommendations.

I also love Kona - I swear I dream about their bread :) It was amazing, had the best texture ever, and it came with a macadamia nut butter. YUM!

All of our entrees were delicious as well - the Tuna Oscar was mine and I loved it!

To keep it easy I would go to the Wave or Cali Grill..they are both amazing

This is so funny, we are doing the exact same thing! I am coming in a day early and I *have* to stay at Disney, even though we are not going to any parks! My cruise leaves out of Port Canaveral as well.

I would recommend The Wave or The California Grill. We are doing a one nighter at the Polynesian for DH's birthday after a stay offsite at the Marriot Cypress Harbour. We will eat at Kona or the Grand Floridian Cafe the one night on property, but we have ADR at the California Grill for his 65th birthday dinner a few nights before..
