Hi folks,

We are going to be doing a single night in a Fort Wilderness Cabin. We have a week-long stay booked over at Art of Animation in a family suite with free dining before that.

We decided to add an extra night at the end of our trip, and since they wouldn't let us add an extra night onto our free dining promotion, we decided to try at night in the cabins. Even though it's going to add an extra hassle factor to switch for just one night, even after factoring in the room-only discounts, the cabin was quite a bit cheaper than another night in the family suite at AoA, and we thought it would be a nice chance to see the cabins and Fort Wilderness before our youngest child turns 3 and we no longer "fit" in a cabin.

A couple of questions for those of you who are familiar with Fort Wilderness:

1. We'll be coming back from the Magic Kingdom and wanting to head over to Chip 'n' Dale's campfire sing-a-long. Assuming transportation from MK by boat, how much time do you think we should allow to comfortably make it back to FW?

2. For one night, do you think we should rent a golf cart or just make do with the internal bus system? Basically, we'll be spending one evening and one morning doing things at FW. Probably the campfire, breakfast at Trail's End, maybe a trip to the pool. Trying to decide on extra cost vs. convenience.

3. Any other tips anyone else wants to share, either about FW in general or about making the transition from AoA to FW as painless as possible? (We will have our own car available, though we generally use Disney transportation to get to and from the parks.)

Thanks all,
Tom

1. I'd allow about an hour to give you plenty of time. You may have to wait for the boat then wait for the bus to get to the campfire. The boat ride doesn't take long. It's very relaxing.
2. For 1 night I probably wouldn't do the golf cart. Golf cart pickup is at 1 and needs to be returned by 11 on your return day. If you move over early from aoa then go to mk, you may not want to wait around for 1:00 or come back just to have the cart.
3. It should be easy to move over since you have your own car to move your stuff over. Plus you get to park your car right outside the cabin.
Check out the camping at Disney forum. Lots of advice and info about the fort. https://www.disboards.com/forums/camping-at-disney-world.24/

I agree about not needing the golf cart, but when we stayed there the golf cart was fun! We were able to drive it around the grounds and see all the RV's. We took it to the pool and to the beach/boat dock where Trail's End is. The golf cart and touring the grounds was a nice afternoon activity. We also rented a pontoon boat at the marina and had a wonderful low-key afternoon!
