I am spending one night at an upcoming early december trip. It is arrival night and our plane does not land until 5:10pm. We'll have dinner and relax in the resort before checking out in the morning and hitting the parks running (Animal Kingdom) the next day.

Right now I have a standard view studio at Jambo booked and hoping to do Boma for dinner. It will be dark by the time we arrive so I'm not sure a savanna view is even worth it... but right now I could switch to a savanna view at Kidani. Will you even be able to see any animals after dark? I haven't stayed there since it was only Jambo and was sick that whole trip so I don't remember.

If I want to do Boma it would be easier to just stay at Jambo and then we can use the night vision goggles at the main savannah to view some animals and see the holiday decorations and just enjoy the resort before making it an early night. Is one resort better than the other for just general hanging out? i might need a grownup beverage after a day of travel.

Since you are only going to be at the resort for a very short period of time, go for the one that takes the least amount of points.

The savanna's have a "perpetual moonlight" lighting so it's possible to make out animals at night...if they are near your room.

When I had a Jambo standard view (with a partial savanna view) I would come back to the room at night, go out on the balcony and occasionally listen to (and see) some grazing animals munching on the grass.

I wouldn't count on animal views from your room. They move less at night, so it's very possible to have an empty view...and depending on your morning time the animals might be gone into their barn for a daily checkup.
(My 1st Jambo savanna view stay, the Ankole? Cattle would lay down near our room as night began, then the irrigation sprinklers would start up, and the annoyed cattle would leave.

Jambo's Boma access is great, I'd definately stay there. Check the resort schedule, they have nightly night-vision binocular animal viewing off the lobby.

We just did one night at Jambo in a standard view earlier this month. We actually had a savannah view once we got to the room.

For that I'd do the standard view at Jambo. As mentioned, many of them are partial savannah view so you may get a bit of that anyway. :)

oh nice. thanks for the feedback :) I will stick with my standard Jambo. We won't be there super long, arriving around dinnertime anyway!

You must have very good vision. I haven't noticed any sort of nighttime lighting on the savannah, and we've (or I alone) stayed in a savannah room, hmm, 3 times now?

Just go for standard.

If by chance there's a seriously cold snap, by the way, the animals might not be out for the night vision goggles. Our first trip there was December 2010 when it was sooooo cold, and the goggle experience was a total dud. The animals were NOT out there.

Well this is kind of a bonus day... we were going to fly very early on saturday and I decided to burn the extra day of vacation and get what I could at WDW rather than airport hotel back home so we could have a full day on Saturday. So it's really just a place to sleep and anything more is a bonus... but of course when the allure of something better comes along after everything is booked solid it is hard to not at least consider it! I will keep my expectations in check about what we'll see with the night vision goggles and maybe there will be something to see in the morning from our balcony before we take off for AK but if not... the safari will be waiting!

It's not super obvious, and may require an acclimation period.

At night, the savannas are illuminated by artificial moonlight as if a full moon were ever present.

I have to agree that hakepb is correct - they do have simulated "moonlight" out on the savannahs. And here I thought my eyesight was fairly bad. :D

From our Jambo savannah view at 11PM, a whole herd of zebras were down by our rooms on the sunset savannah. Many folks were on their balcony just taking it all in.

Many times I have seen animals on the Savannah at night.

Go for standard view. Make a request for room along Kudo Trail. If you get it, you will have savanna view because the only standards along that side of the building are savanna views converted to standard.
