"One More Waffle!" An October 2011 TR! *Update 4/24, pg 70-The End!*

Your pictures are great from the parade!

You did the right thing, not confronting them and just sitting down. In my opinion, those people were rude to assume you wouldn't sit down for the parade. The lady should have asked both of you nicely if you were going to sit or stand and then should have asked nicely if her children could stand in front (if you were going to stand) instead of being so rude. I can not stand rude people. I have traveled to disney with and without our son and never have been rude to others like that. I am glad you didn't let it get the best of you!!! I feel that if you would have confronted them it would have just gotten worse.

You are a great person for not saying anything back to that family. It is very rude of the mother to talk about you when they know you could hear everything. When Kyle and I can't see something, we move, we don't make other's adjust themselves for us. They should have just moved.

Wow. That family's comments were definitely unnecessarily rude. But you're right, it's best to just enjoy the happy things and try to keep it as magical as possible!

(But still. Ugh.)

Great parade pics/video!

Wow girl, you are gooooood for holding your tongue. I would definitely have sat down so the kids could see, just as you and Brandon said you would, but I could never let someone sit there and talk about me like that! I'm glad you were able to put it to the side and enjoy the parade! Great pictures, too! :thumbsup2

I agree with everyone else, I think you did the right thing. I would have had the same reaction...debating whether or not it was worth it to say something but sitting down in the end. Rude, miserable people will be rude and miserable their whole lives so it's not worth it to try to argue with that! Glad you were able to let it go and enjoy the parade...my FAVORITE parade, btw! And you definitely had a better spot that night than I did!!

I think it was very kind of you and it showed a lot of restraint not to let loose on the lady. She should have just kept her mouth shut and I'm sure you would have offered to have the children stand in front of you or you would have sat down. Sorry you had to be in that uncomfortable situation. But you enjoyed the parade, and that's really what matters. And your pics turned out good.!!!!!

Ugh - what is it about parades that bring out the worst in people?! It is for that reason that we don't do too many of them - too much tension! I am really sensitive, and if I that had been me, my night would have been ruined. I commend your taking the high road! :worship:

It looks like all of that was worth it though, because the parade looks amazing! I MUST go to Disney in October! I so want to see all of the decorations and go to the party!

People can really be jerks. I know either Ben or I would have said something. But then we would have had more of a scene... you were smart to bite your tongue!

The Halloween party looks like so much fun- can't wait to see it next year!

I commend you for your self control, because I'm pretty sure I would have shanked that lady.

Of course, maybe that's my desperate need for a vacation speaking. Once I'm AT WDW, I may have the same self control.

But maybe not. :rolleyes1

Enjoying your report!

Your pictures really turned out great, makes me wish I was there.
Thanks for the video too.

I love Mickey and Minnie's costume...I think we met them too early in the evening because they were in regular outfits still
The room you meet him in is so adorable!!

I loved the parade, though you had a much better spot and got some awesome pictures!! You are much nicer than me I would have said something...but I am glad you enjoyed the parade even with the rude people!

What you described with the parade is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves at Disney World. Marc & I have encountered many issues like that where parents think just because we have no children with us that they should be able to cut us in line, or get to meet characters first or squeeze in front of us at parades. It's obnoxious. I understand kids want to enjoy Disney but as adults only we pay just as much to be there and want to enjoy the same things. It's a simple as just waiting your turn. Grrrr. Okay, I'll stop ranting now.

That's just horrible what happened and that woman and her family constantly going on and on about it is just the same as if you would have turned around and confronted her. But I'm glad that there was no confrontation in the end, as I can tell it would have upset you alot. Its a shame that there are people out there like that, even more shameful that it happens at WDW :(

So glad you loved the parade, its such an awesome show and the music is so cool. What was your favourite part? Did you see the grave diggers little skit?

Ugh, if I said something to that woman, who knows what would have happened? As much as I would have liked to, it was probably better that I didn't. :confused3

I did love the parade! The grave diggers were probably my favorite, I loved the whole Haunted Mansion part!

Your parade pictures are wonderful! It looks just incredible! Can't wait to hear what you think of HalloWishes!
You are a big person to just sit even though it would have been more comfortable to stand-- I also applaud your ability not to confront the rude things the people were saying about you. Ridiculous. I hate entitled people-- those with kids and without. Big ups to you-- I don't think I would have been able to bite my tongue!

Thanks! I have more parade pics, but I figure everyone has probably seen them by now, so I just put up the ones I really liked!

I don't know if I'm a big person for not saying anything...I just didn't want to cause a scene in the middle of Main Street, and I have a feeling that's what it would have escalated to! Anywhere else but Disney World though, and I wouldn't have been so quiet! :rotfl:

haha, I like in the video of the Headless Horseman you can hear one of the CMs telling people to stay behind the tape or whatever. They are so serious about not being in the street AT ALL when he comes by!

Ugh, that is obnoxious about that family and their kids. :sad2:

Haha, I thought that was funny to, how you could hear the CM! He actually doesn't ride as fast as I thought he would, I guess so you can see him, and maybe partially so he doesn't trample anyone! :rotfl2:

Yeah, that family was definitely obnoxious! Oh well, glad we went our separate ways when the parade was over! :thumbsup2

First off, your parade pictures turned out really well. Alex is normally really good with taking photos, but he didn't get any good ones from Boo to You, so I was glad to see someone was able to capture some great ones. :thumbsup2

And second, I can completely empathize with you on the rude family incident. It seems like 2 adults catch a lot of un-needed heckling because there aren't children with them. I have yet to sit down for a parade or show and not had a family make a little snide comment about "taking up space for the kids." It stinks that they had to upset you and take away that parade anticipation.
But you were such a better person than me; it was really good of you to just sit down and brush their comments aside. I don't think I could've kept my mouth shut. :rotfl:

I can't wait to see what you thought of Hallowishes. I know it's become my DH's favorite firework show, so I wonder if you enjoyed it as much as Holiday Wishes.

Thanks! I honestly wasn't very happy with those parade pictures, but I did get a few good ones!:thumbsup2 It's hard to get good parade pics, because it's dark and everything is moving! :scared1:

It's weird, Brandon and I have been to Disney 5 times together, and this is really the first trip where it became very obvious that we didn't have kids with us! :confused3 I honestly never gave it much thought before. No one has ever made a comment, asked us to move, nothing! So it was kind of a surprise when this happened! I just feel like if you want your kids to see the parade so badly, wait for a good spot, like everyone else did on Main Street! :confused3

Your pictures came out great! Whatever setting you picked on your camera was awesome... I especially love the one with the waltzing ghosts with the eery fog in the background. So appropriate!

I'm also super jealous you managed to snag evidence of the Headless Horseman. When he rode passed us I got the world's worst blurry picture... I deleted it on the spot!

Thanks! I have no idea what setting I used, I was seriously playing around with my camera the whole time before the parade started! I love the waltzing ghost picture, that's probably my favorite! :thumbsup2

LOL, that's why I didn't even bother trying to get a picture, and Brandon loves taking video, so since he volunteered, why not? :yay:

Your pictures are great from the parade!

You did the right thing, not confronting them and just sitting down. In my opinion, those people were rude to assume you wouldn't sit down for the parade. The lady should have asked both of you nicely if you were going to sit or stand and then should have asked nicely if her children could stand in front (if you were going to stand) instead of being so rude. I can not stand rude people. I have traveled to disney with and without our son and never have been rude to others like that. I am glad you didn't let it get the best of you!!! I feel that if you would have confronted them it would have just gotten worse.

Thanks! :)

And thank you! :flower3: It definitely would have gotten worse if there was a confrontation, and I really don't want to be that person in Disney World! :scared1: I just want to have fun, and I want everyone around me to be having fun, even if I don't know them, so when things like this happen, it stresses me out! But I enjoyed the parade, and I'm guessing they did, because I never heard another negative word from them, so everything turned out ok in the end! :)

Such a joy reading your trip report! WL is my favorite DR by far! I have always wanted to stay at CSR just to try it out (I eventually want to have stayed in all of the resorts). I have heard CM's say "welcome home" at other resorts but most of them just have signs! I have even heard some of the bus videos and drivers say it. I can't help but smile everytime I hear it :)

You are a great person for not saying anything back to that family. It is very rude of the mother to talk about you when they know you could hear everything. When Kyle and I can't see something, we move, we don't make other's adjust themselves for us. They should have just moved.

LOL, thanks! I don't know if I'm a great person for not saying anything, I really just kept thinking "ok, do I want to be THAT person, the one who causes a huge scene in Disney? NO!" :rotfl: If it was anywhere else, I would have spoken up. I can't believe they talked about us the whole time, but whatever! Brandon and I do the same thing, if we can't see, we move, we would never ask someone else to move for us! :confused3 I wouldn't even do that if I had a kid with me, I'd make sure I got a good spot early enough!

Wow. That family's comments were definitely unnecessarily rude. But you're right, it's best to just enjoy the happy things and try to keep it as magical as possible!

(But still. Ugh.)

Great parade pics/video!

I'm glad everyone is agreeing with me, that these people were rude! I was nervous when I was doing this update, I thought maybe some people would think I was being a whiney brat or something! :rotfl: I tried to be as nice as possible, even though I really didn't want to, but in the end, it's Disney, it's vacation, it's not worth getting upset with someone who I'll probably never see again!

I know, though...Ugh!

Wow girl, you are gooooood for holding your tongue. I would definitely have sat down so the kids could see, just as you and Brandon said you would, but I could never let someone sit there and talk about me like that! I'm glad you were able to put it to the side and enjoy the parade! Great pictures, too! :thumbsup2

You have no idea how close I was to turning around and saying something, trust me! But Brandon would have said something, and I'm sure the dad would have, and then I feel like it would have just turned into a huge argument, and I just wanted to avoid that whole scene in Disney! I just kept thinking, what if I get kicked out? Or banned? :scared1: My life would have seriously been over! :rotfl2:

The parade ended up being awesome, and I'm glad we got a few decent pics!

Thanks! :goodvibes Totally agree with you about the rude and miserable people...if those people acted like that during MNSSHP, imagine how they must have acted all their other days in the parks? If they couldn't get an ADR? Or meet a certain character? :confused3 As much as I wanted to say something, it wouldn't have been worth it! I just wanted to enjoy my first MNSSHP, my first Halloween parade, and my vacation, and I definitely did! :yay:

I think it was very kind of you and it showed a lot of restraint not to let loose on the lady. She should have just kept her mouth shut and I'm sure you would have offered to have the children stand in front of you or you would have sat down. Sorry you had to be in that uncomfortable situation. But you enjoyed the parade, and that's really what matters. And your pics turned out good.!!!!!

Thanks! I don't know what set her off, I'm guessing because Brandon said "I guess" and didn't say a definitive "yes", but that's just how he is when he's doing something with his phone! :rotfl: I guess I should have just said "yes, we'll sit" and stopped the whole rant right there, but I was kind of in shock, and also kind of fascinated to see how long they would keep it going!

I loved the parade, and I'm glad we got some good pics, even though it's so hard to take picture of moving objects in the dark! :rotfl:

Ugh - what is it about parades that bring out the worst in people?! It is for that reason that we don't do too many of them - too much tension! I am really sensitive, and if I that had been me, my night would have been ruined. I commend your taking the high road! :worship:

It looks like all of that was worth it though, because the parade looks amazing! I MUST go to Disney in October! I so want to see all of the decorations and go to the party!

I don't know, it's disappointing, isn't it? :goodvibes You expect the best from people in Disney, and it seems like with each trip, people get more and more selfish. We hardly ever do parades either, but in this situation, I had to see the Halloween parade! I'm very sensitive too, trust me, I might have made it seem like I just shrugged it off and enjoyed the parade, but it took a LOT of effort! If I let it ruin my night, it definitely could have, I just had to make the decision to not let it! It wasn't easy! :sad2:

The parade was awesome! You should definitely go in October, it's a lot of fun! And the Food and Wine festival is awesome! I already want to go again next year!

People can really be jerks. I know either Ben or I would have said something. But then we would have had more of a scene... you were smart to bite your tongue!

The Halloween party looks like so much fun- can't wait to see it next year!

LOL, that's exactly why I didn't say anything, I didn't want to cause a scene! And, I just realized I left this out of the update, but you know how I said Brandon was playing with his phone? He didn't hear anything they said! So when I told him after the parade, he was surprised, and said he wished I told him when it happened, because he would have flipped out on them! He is NOT one to hold back, and if he said something, it would have been bad, so I'm really glad he didn't hear them!

The Halloween party was a lot of fun, you are going to have a great time! :cool1:

I commend you for your self control, because I'm pretty sure I would have shanked that lady.

Of course, maybe that's my desperate need for a vacation speaking. Once I'm AT WDW, I may have the same self control.

But maybe not. :rolleyes1

Enjoying your report!

LOL, thanks! I guess sometimes you just have to pick your battles, and the thought of possibly being escorted out of Disney World just wasn't worth it to me! Glad you're enjoying the TR!

Your pictures really turned out great, makes me wish I was there.
Thanks for the video too.

Thanks! Isn't the video cute? Brandon did a great job with that, I'm so bad with video, I don't even bother!

Isn't the meet and greet area for Mickey so cute? :thumbsup2 Aww, I can't believe they weren't in costume yet for you guys! I guess they wouldn't be, if you met them before 7!

Thanks! LOL, I'm a pretty nice person, but I just LOVE Disney World too much to jeopardize it in any way, I was seriously afraid that if I said something, and we started yelling at each other or something, I'd be escorted out! Something tells me they don't tolerate that in the Magic Kingdom, not very magical!

What you described with the parade is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves at Disney World. Marc & I have encountered many issues like that where parents think just because we have no children with us that they should be able to cut us in line, or get to meet characters first or squeeze in front of us at parades. Okay, I'll stop ranting now.

It's definitely obnoxious, and this was really the first trip that in some situations, I felt out of place not having a kid! :confused3 But people have never said anything to us, asked us to move, made comments until this incident! It was shocking! I knew it happened, from reading about it on the DIS, but I didn't think I'd actually have it happen to me! I think adults should be able to enjoy Disney just as much as kids! I'd love to have a kid someday, and bring him or her to Disney, but for now, we're having fun going there on our own, and I don't see anything wrong with that! :cool1:

Such a joy reading your trip report! WL is my favorite DR by far! I have always wanted to stay at CSR just to try it out (I eventually want to have stayed in all of the resorts). I have heard CM's say "welcome home" at other resorts but most of them just have signs! I have even heard some of the bus videos and drivers say it. I can't help but smile everytime I hear it :)

Thank you! :goodvibes Isn't WL amazing? I would love to stay at every resort, that would be fun! I love hearing CM's say welcome home, it's such a great feeling! :thumbsup2

LOVE this picture. They look so cute in their costumes. Okay, you went to MNSSHP weeks before I did, how did you wear long pants? I was in short leggings and felt like I was melting?

Now, I'm not a mean, evil person. I don't want to ruin a child's enjoyment of seeing a Disney parade. HOWEVER. I paid to be there too. And just because I don't have a child with me doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to get a good spot for the parade and enjoy it. It was my first MNSSHP and the parade was one of the things I was most excited about.

This! :thumbsup2 I know Disney is a place that caters to families, but that doesn't come at the expense of the adults who enjoy going without kids. I also get so annoyed by the people who show up five minutes before a parade and ask if their kids can go in front of us. If you were sooooo worried about your kid getting to see the parade, why didn't you come find a spot a half-hour ago like I did? :confused3

I loved the parade, it was just as good as everyone said it would be! I love the music, and I really love the Haunted Mansion part! :thumbsup2

The parade was AWESOME! I came home and promptly downloaded the Boo to You music (as well as the Hallowishes music), it's catchy stuff! The costumes and makeup on the Haunted Mansion people were unbelievable!

Jen, great pictures from the Boo to You Parade...you did awesome. I love the picture of you and Brandon with Mickey and Minnie.

I have to say that you are a better person than me. I would NOT have been able to hold my tongue. As Mark and I have traveled without our kids for the last numerous trips, we are obvioulsy alone when we watch the parades (except the last two years when we were with Cayley and Avery). We have heard more snide remarks from people about how Disney is for the kids and adults shouldn't be sitting where the kids should be sitting, blah blah blah. It is obvious they are talking about us. But I have found a way to get back at them without losing my temper. Once the parade is just about to get to the point where we are sitting, I find another family who has young children who are in the back, and I offer to let the kids come stand or sit in front of me. Perhaps those "unhappy" people will learn to keep their mouths shut the next time. ;)

Great photo with Mickey and Minnie and I agree in that they are such a sweet couple :lovestruc I keep seeing all these pics of Mickey and Minnie dressed up and we got completely different outfits...I can't wait to share the photos when I get to it.

I love the video of the Headless Horseman - great idea and much better then trying to take a photo!

Ugghh at the behaviour of that woman  I agree that everyone has a right to be at the parade (whether you have kids or not shouldn't be an issue) and you sure were nice not to have said anything.

Great pics of the parade :thumbsup2
