One more thing...cost of points

They do have insurance, but they have the option of special assessments for what insurance doesn't cover, and they have the option to take the money and not rebuild the resort (and compensate members) in the case of a total write off. When the hurricane hit VB a few years ago, Disney ate the deductibles and uninsured damage (there is always some) and didn't pass on any special assessment - but apparently, they could have.

I also spent a great deal of time doing the math. However I finally came to the understanding that if I really wanted to do the fiscally prudent thing I would never step foot into Disney. This is a luxury purchase and numbers are only part of the equation. I would suggest buying what you really want but pepper it with of logic and math to taste.

I hope that makes sense.

This is true, still some luxury purchases are better deals than others. There are a lot of variables in a DVC purchase and in the end the buyer has to prioritize them to make the decision that is best for them.
